'Fish Walk Away with Two

(Bridgeport, Conn. - August 9, 2010) - The Bridgeport Bluefish defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers 5-4 in the completion of a suspended game and 2-1 in the regularly scheduled game Monday night at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.

The Bluefish and Barnstormers resumed a tie game that was suspended in the bottom of the seventh inning on July 21, and Bridgeport scored one run in the tenth to take the win. Joe Jiannetti began the inning with a single to right field, and Hiram Bocachica moved Jiannetti to third on a double to the wall in left. Lancaster intentionally walked Luis Lopez to load the bases for Tom Pennino, who came through with a single to center to bring Jiannetti home for the win.

The loss was given to Tim Hamulack (4-4), allowing one run on four hits with one walk and two strikeouts.

Luis Arroyo (2-2) earned the win for the 'Fish, finishing the last three innings while giving up one hit with two strikeouts.

The regular scheduled game for Monday night began shortly after the conclusion of the suspended match. Bridgeport put the first run on the board in the third inning when Jiannetti began the frame with a base-hit through the left side. With one out, Brandon Chaves sent a single to the outfield, and Adam Greenberg followed with a sacrifice fly giving Jiannetti the chance to tag up and score from third.

Lancaster's Jason Perry answered back in the top of the fourth with a solo shot over the center field wall, tying the game at one.

Bridgeport took the game from the Barnstormers in the bottom of the ninth for the team's second walkoff win of the day. Danny Putnam began the rally with a single up the middle, Tike Redman walked, and with one out Bocachica drove Putnam in on a single smashed through the left side.

Kevin Mannix started the game for the 'Fish, giving up one run on six hits through eight innings of work. The righty walked four and sat down five. Chris Rivera (4-3) was awarded the win after pitching the ninth frame, with one strikeout.

Josh Hall (9-5) suffered the loss for Lancaster, giving up two runs on six hits, with three walks and six strikeouts.

The Bluefish will be back in action on tomorrow against the Lancaster Barnstormers at 7:05 p.m. The Ballpark at Harbor Yard gates will open at 6:05 p.m. for Kids Eat Free Tuesday, presented by TD Bank. All kid's (12 and under) will receive a free hot dog, bag of chips and 12 oz. fountain soda or chocolate milk.
