York Revolution News Release
The York Revolution matched their largest margin of victory on the season, and in turn matched their winningest first half ever with a 15-2 trouncing of the Lancaster Barnstormers in front of 4,009 fans at Clipper Magazine Stadium on Sunday evening. The Revs (36-27) head into the All-Star Break with back-to-back victories under their belt, and are now 18-9 since June 14. Their .571 winning percentage matches last year's first half mark, and York is tied with Southern Maryland for the third best overall record in the league.
Vince Harrison gave York a quick 3-0 lead in the second with a three-run homer to right, extending his hitting streak to 20 consecutive games in the process, tied for the fifth longest streak in Revs history and the longest in the league this season.
York added a run in the third when Val Majewski tripled off the base of the fence just right of straightaway center, and scored on a Chris Nowak RBI single to make it 4-0.
The Revs then erupted for seven runs in a monster fifth inning. Liubiemithz Rodriguez and Scott Grimes each ripped two-run singles, and Ramon Castro launched a three-run homer into the bumper boat pool in right-center, capping the Revs' third largest inning of the season and their biggest since scoring eight against Lancaster on June 17.
Rodriguez stroked another RBI single in the sixth to make it 12-0 York.
Brandon Jones connected on a two-run homer to right in the bottom of the sixth to break up Chris Cody's shutout bid, but those were the only two runs the southpaw allowed on the day.
York added three more in the seventh for the final tally as Majewski and Nowak singled home runs, and Harrison plated one more on a groundout.
Cody (7-4) worked six innings for the win becoming the first pitcher in Revs history to win seven games before the midway point of the season. He now leads the club in victories and ranks second in the league with his seven triumphs.
Shaun Garceau pitched two scoreless innings in relief and Lee Tabor tossed a scoreless ninth in his Revs debut to finish it.
Lancaster starter Cesar Carrillo (2-6) suffered the loss, charged with nine runs in 4.2 innings.
Notes: The Revs lead the War of the Roses series, 5-4. York outscored Lancaster 22-4 in the final two games of the series. Much of York's eight-run outburst on June 17, also in the fifth inning, came against Carrillo who has now lost twice against York in as many meetings this season; Cody was also the beneficiary on the mound as the winning pitcher that night, having now improved to 2-0 against the Barnstormers this season. It is the fourth time this season the Revs have scored 15 runs or more, all since June 25. Majewski picked up his 45th RBI, one shy of matching the Revs' first half record of 46 (Tom Collaro, 2009). With three more runs scored, Majewski's league-leading runs total climbs to 57. Grimes (3-for-4) has now hit safely in six of his last seven at-bats. Nowak (3-for-4) had reached base safely in seven consecutive at-bats before being retired in the ninth. Harrison and Rodriguez matched their season-highs in RBI with four and three, respectively. The Revs are off until Friday while Sovereign Bank Stadium hosts the Atlantic League All-Star Game on Wednesday night. York opens the second half at Southern Maryland on Friday night with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, Shoutcast.com (WPDC), and YorkRevsTV.com beginning at 6:30 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
