New England Revolution News Release
CINCINNATI, Ohio - The New England Revolution (5-10-1; 16 pts.) will put their three-game winning streak to the test when they visit last year's Supporters' Shield winner FC Cincinnati (12-3-3; 39 pts.) on Saturday night at TQL Stadium. Saturday's match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET and is available to watch on MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app in English and Spanish. Listen on the radio via 98.5 The Sports Hub (WBZ-FM), with Brad Feldman and Charlie Davies on the call. Portuguese commentary is available on 1260 AM "Nossa Radio USA".
New England leads the all-time series against FC Cincinnati, 5-2-3, including an unbeaten 3-0-1 mark in the Revolution's four previous visits to face the 2019 MLS expansion side. However, Cincinnati won the first meeting this season in Foxborough, 2-1 on March 17. The Orange-and-Blue are currently first overall in the MLS Supporters' Shield standings on points-per-game after finishing the 2023 campaign as the regular season leaders. This weekend's matchup features two of the league's most recent Most Valuable Players in Carles Gil (2021) and FC Cincinnati talisman Luciano Acosta (2023). Acosta currently leads MLS with 14 assists this season, with a remarkable seven goals and 10 assists in his last 10 starts. Winners of nine of their last 10 games, including a 4-3 win over the Philadelphia Union on Wednesday, Cincinnati is coached by former Revolution player Pat Noonan, who played in New England from 2003-07
New England, winners of two of the last three games on the road, swept its two-game homestand with a 3-2 victory over Vancouver Whitecaps FC last Saturday, extending the team's winning streak to three matches. The victory featured the Revolution's first three-goal half of the league campaign, as New England raced out to a swift lead behind strikes from Homegrown midfielders Noel Buck and Esmir Bajraktarević, along with forward Giacomo Vrioni. The pair of Revolution Academy products became the first teenaged duo to score in the same match for New England since 2008. Vrioni now has three goals on the season, with two goals and one helper in the last six games. Bajraktarević has now scored in consecutive matches for the first time in his MLS career, as the 19-year-old winger raised his totals to three goals and five assists across all competitions in 2024.
Gil and forward Dylan Borrero have both been finding the scoresheet with regularity as they combined for the assist on Vrioni's latest goal. Borrero, who has started five straight matches, has recorded an assist in two of the last three games. The Revolution are now 7-0-2 when the 22-year-old Colombian winger reaches the scoresheet. Gil continues to catalyze New England's attack with a team-best five goals and four assists this season. The Spanish playmaker, set to make his 150th MLS regular season appearance on Saturday, owns two goals and three assists in his last six starts. With an assist in Cincinnati, Gil would have a helper in four straight games for the third time in his MLS career.
To reward the offensive production, the Revolution have been delivering steady defensive performance anchored by goalkeeper Aljaž Ivačič in net. The Slovenian has backstopped New England to four wins in his seven starts, including two shutouts. Fellow in-season arrival Xavier Arreaga has helped solidify the defense with eight consecutive starts, the last three next to Dave Romney, who is two starts away from 200 for his MLS career. Emmanuel Boateng is approaching similar milestones, as he enters the weekend two games away from 200 career appearances, and two starts shy of the century mark in his MLS career.
