York Revolution News Release

The York Revolution's comeback effort fell short Monday night, dropping an 8-7 final to the Camden Riversharks in front of 2,230 fans at Sovereign Bank Stadium. York and Camden are both 2-2 in the second half. The Revs are 28-39 overall, while the Sharks' overall mark stands at 41-26.

Camden struck first in the second inning on a two-run homer to the opposite field by Brad Strauss. The blast was his second of the season, and it sailed over the Arch Nemesis in leftfield.

York got on the board in the bottom half of the inning on back-to-back doubles by Ramon Nivar and Rayner Bautista. The latter's drove in Nivar, and extended Bautista's hit streak to a team-record 10 games.

The Sharks' lead grew to 4-1 in the third on an RBI groundout by Randy McGarvey, and a run-scoring double to right by Matt DeMarco. It ballooned to 7-1 in the sixth after Rene Aqueron ripped an RBI single to right, and Denny Abreu went deep to left-center on a two-run tater, all of which came with two outs.

The Revs began their comeback in the bottom of the sixth with consecutive singles by Peter Bergeron and Nate Espy to open the inning. After a fielder's choice for the first out, and Nivar's hit-by-pitch to load the bases, Bautista bounced a ball to short that appeared to be a potential inning-ending double play. Pete Shier's throw to second, however, sailed into rightfield, allowing two runs to score. Greg Brown then drove in another run on a groundout to third, and with two outs, Travis Hake lofted a high fly to left that grazed the Arch Nemesis. Hake reached second with a double, scoring Bautista on the play to make it a 7-5 game.

York drew within one in the seventh on an RBI single to center by Espy, cutting it to a 7-6 game, but Camden picked up a huge insurance run in the eighth on a two-out RBI double to right-center by Abreu.

Ramon Linares entered in the bottom of the ninth with an 8-6 lead in search of his seventh save for Camden. Kazunori Tanaka opened with a bloop single to center, and with one out, Bergeron singled to left on a hit-and-run putting runners at the corners. Espy then drove a ball to deep center, scoring Tanaka from third base to make it 8-7. Singleton then followed with a drive to deep left-center, but Camden centerfielder Dwight Maness tracked it down on the warning track for the final out.

Notes: Bautista is now 15-for-41 on his 10-game hit streak... Bergeron now owns a seven-game hitting streak, batting .320 during that stretch... Brown is also riding a seven-game streak (.524)... Singleton owns a seven-game streak, with a .300 clip during that span... Tanaka is now 10-for-24 on his eight-game hitting streak... the Revs are now 10-9 at home, and 3-7 against Camden this season... the series resumes with the middle game scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Tuesday night... it is the first Rookie Revs Kids night of the season, with Kids Post-Game Run the Bases.
