New England Revolution News Release
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Revolution will begin their 2022 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup quest on Wednesday night, when the club hosts FC Cincinnati in the Round of 32 at Gillette Stadium. Wednesday's match kicks off at 7:00 p.m. ET and streams nationally on ESPN+.
The Revolution return to the U.S. Open Cup, one of the world's oldest club tournaments currently in its 107th edition, for the first time since 2019 after the last two tournaments were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. New England won the U.S. Open Cup title in 2007 and advanced to the final on two other occasions on 2001 and 2016. The Revolution own a 21-17-5 record in the competition, including a 13-5-3 home mark. Sporting Director and Head Coach Bruce Arena carriers a 15-9-0 career record in the U.S. Open Cup, with one win and one loss since joining the Revolution.
The Revolution head into Wednesday's match unbeaten in their last three home games after a 2-2 draw with the Columbus Crew last Saturday. Defender DeJuan Jones opened his 2022 account with assists from midfielders Emmanuel Boateng and Carles Gil, who has tallied an assist in three straight games. Forward Adam Buksa extended his scoring streak to four consecutive matches, an MLS-career long, with a headed finish on midfielder Sebastian Lletget's second assist of the season. Buksa leads New England's attack with six goals scored across all competitions in 2022. Lletget enters Wednesday's match with a team-high five career goals across eight appearances in Open Cup play.
FC Cincinnati advanced to the Round of 32 with a 2-0 win over USL Championship side Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC on April 19, behind a pair of goals from midfielder Alvaro Barreal in extra time. The Orange and Blue have since won three of their last four games in MLS play, including consecutive clean sheet triumphs over Toronto and Minnesota. First-year head coach Pat Noonan played for the Revolution from 2003-07 and ranks among the club's all-time leaders in goals (T-7th - 37) and assists (9th - 29).
Following Wednesday's match, New England will resume its MLS schedule with a nationally televised match at Atlanta United FC on Sunday, May 15. The contest kicks off at 1:30 p.m. ET at Mercedes-Benz Stadium and airs on ESPN and ESPN Deportes, and locally on the radio via 98.5 The Sports Hub and 1260 AM Nossa Radio in Portuguese.
