Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp right-hander Jeff Brigham allowed one run in six innings to the Chattanooga Lookouts to earn his first win since April 20 in a 5-2 victory in front of 4,010 on Baptist Health Sunday Family FUNday and Star Wars Night presented by Bowden Eye & Associates at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
Brigham (4-1) won for the first time since he did so in Chattanooga on April 20. He kept the Lookouts (5-12 second half, 41-45 overall) scoreless outside of a fourth-inning leadoff home run by Chattanooga left fielder Zander Wiel. He scattered five hits and one walk with five strikeouts in six innings.
The Jumbo Shrimp (5-12, 33-52) took the lead in the bottom of the second inning against Lookouts right-hander Omar Bencomo, who pitched for Jacksonville last season. Shortstop Joe Dunand and first baseman Eric Jagielo hit consecutive singles to right field, before right fielder John Norwood grounded into a double play. With Dunand at third base, Bencomo hit catcher Rodrigo Vigil with a pitch and walked third baseman Brian Schales. Left fielder Brian Miller grounded to shortstop Taylor Motter, whose errant throw to first base allowed two runs to score. Center fielder Monte Harrison followed with a two-run single to left field and was caught in a rundown to end the inning with a 4-0 lead.
Jacksonville added a run in the bottom of the fourth inning, when Vigil hit a two-out, ground-rule double to right field, and Schales hit an RBI single to right field. Bencomo allowed five runs - one earned - on seven hits and one walk with four strikeouts in six innings. Left-hander Paco Rodriguez pitched the final two innings and allowed one hit with two strikeouts.
Chattanooga managed an unearned run in the top of the seventh inning against Jacksonville right-hander Ryan Newell, making his first appearance at the Baseball Grounds since April 20, 2016. Newell allowed four hits with one strikeout. Right-hander Kyle Keller worked around a hit and a walk to strike out two batters in the ninth inning for his third save.
