PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, out-hit the Pensacola Blue Wahoos but dropped the series opener 2-1 Sunday night at Blue Wahoos Stadium.
Brennon Lund provided the lone run with a solo homer in the third inning to tie the game 1-1. It was Lund's third home run of the week and seventh of the season.
The Blue Wahoos (43-42 overall, 13-4 second half) plated a pair of early runs against Jason Alexander (0-2). Taylor Sparks and Mitch Nay both hit a two-out RBI singles in the second and third, respectively.
Despite giving up seven hits, Tony Santillan (1-0) allowed just one Mobile (46-38, 9-7) run on Lund's long ball in a six-inning start. Santillan earned the win in his Double-A debut. Joel Bender tossed two scoreless, hitless frames, and Alex Powers induced a game-ending double play with runners on the corners in the ninth to record his ninth save.
