Traverse City Pit Spitters News Release
TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Great Lakes Resorters enjoyed a dominant pitching performance from their bullpen as they downed the Traverse City Pit Spitters 3-2 in front of the ninth-straight sellout crowd at Turtle Creek Stadium Friday night.
Pit Spitters bats were held silent past the third inning as six Resorters arms combined for six punchouts in six shutout innings with only one hit in their second-straight win over Traverse City.
Great Lakes jumped out to a quick lead in the second inning as Pit Spitters starter, Jacob Marcus, threw back-to-back wild pitches before Resorters second baseman, Brendan Ryan, pounded an RBI-double to take the 3-0 advantage. In the bottom of the third, Traverse City chipped away as an errand throw to first base scored Jake Arnold before Mario Camilletti smoked a sacrifice hit to cut the Pit Spitters deficit to 3-2. Great Lakes threatened with men on second and third in the seventh and eighth innings but Pit Spitters reliever, Beau Keathley, struck out four-in-a-row to keep the score locked at 3-2. In the bottom of the ninth, Pittsburgh State standout and Great Lakes closer, Nick Brown, struck out the side, slamming the door and delivering the Resorters a 3-2 victory.
Great Lakes reliever and Lourdes University product, Anderson Strunk (1-0), allowed one run on one hit in his first win on the season. Pit Spitters starter, Jacob Marcus (0-1), lasted three innings allowing three runs to cross while striking out three in his first loss on the campaign. The Resorters improve to 3-5 while the Pit Spitters fall to 5-3.
