Windy City ThunderBolts News Release
CRESTWOOD, Ill. -- Scott Billak grounded two-run singles into the outfield in both the sixth and seventh innings, keying a comeback-filled 9-5 victory for the Windy City ThunderBolts (44-32) over the River City Rascals (37-40) on Wednesday night at Standard Bank Stadium.
The ThunderBolts rallied back from deficits of 1-0, 4-1 and 5-4 over the course of the evening in winning their tenth consecutive home game.
Billak capped off the last comeback in the sixth inning against Rascals reliever Pat Evers. The Windy City right fielder sent a two-out bouncer past the glove of diving third baseman Ryan Wehrle to score Mark McBratney and Danny Sawyer and give the ThunderBolts a 6-5 lead.
An inning later, after Evers walked Gilberto Mejia with the bases loaded to force in a seventh run for the 'Bolts, Billak delivered once more. This hopping ground ball barely eluded Rascals second baseman Brad Hough, again plating McBratney and Sawyer.
ThunderBolts closer Matt Petty loaded the bases in the ninth inning but struck out Hough and Dan Maycock to clinch the victory.
Reliever Jason Lowey (3-1) earned the win, allowing one run on three hits over three innings in relief of starter Ted Ratliff.
Rascals starter Scott Fogelson (4-8) suffered the loss, serving up six runs on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings. Those hits included a solo home run by Wes Long, his tenth of the season, and a three-run homer by Danny Sawyer, the catcher's fifth.
The bottom third of the Windy City lineup -- Sullivan, McBratney and Sawyer -- combined to collect five of the ThunderBolts' 10 base hits and score eight of the nine runs.
With the 'Bolts having won the first two games of the series, the squad will look for a sweep on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Amos Ramon (4-3, 4.78) will take the mound for Windy City, opposed by former ThunderBolts right-hander Toro Trevino (2-1, 7.16) for River City. It will be a Thirsty Thursday at Standard Bank Stadium, with 12 oz. fountain domestic drafts and sodas just one dollar piece
