Washington, PA - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, let a much-needed win slip away in game two of their series against the division-leading Kalamazoo Kings in their back-and-froth 7-5 loss on Wednesday.

Washington took the early lead with Brett Grandstrand and Jacob Dempsey each knocking in a run in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. However, Kalamazoo responded in the top of the fourth with a big inning of their own, getting a solo homerun from Brendan Murphy and a two-RBI single from Jeff Grose.

The teams traded runs in the sixth including a Tim Alberts solo homerun, his eighth of the season, to make the score 4-3 Kings.

Kalamazoo extended their lead to 5-3 in the top of the seventh to set the stage for a Wild Things comeback. Three straight singles by Josh Eachues, Chris Sidick and Grandstrand loaded the bases for a hit batter and wild pitch that tied the game at five.

The Wild Things let their potential comeback win unravel in the eighth when Jeff Grose smacked in his 3rd RBI of the game and Brandon Anderson added the insurance run.

Washington will try to avoid being swept Thursday night at CONSOL Energy Park at 7:05 p.m. The Midwest Sliders will visit the park starting on Friday with a doubleheader set for 6:05 p.m. Tickets for both series are available at the CONSOL Energy Park box office.
