Reno Aces News Release
RENO, Nev. - For the second-straight night, the Reno Aces fall in extras to the Las Vegas Aviators, 7-3, on Saturday night.
Tyler Gilbert went six innings off the bump for the Aces, allowing just one run on four hits with four punchouts against the Aviators. The six innings tossed by Reno's starter are the longest of his season.
Seth Beer continued to keep pace with Salt Lake's Jo Adell by scoring his league-leading 44th run of the season.
Jamie Ritchie extended his hitting streak to three with a single in the sixth. The Aces' catcher finished the game 1-for-4 at the dish.
With its second extra-inning game in as many days, it marks the first time since Aug. 29-30, 2018, against Salt Lake that the Aces have gone past the ninth frame.
After a scoreless opening frame, Beer singled to right to start the bottom of the second. Following back-to-back walks to Henry Ramos and Michael De La Cruz to load the bases, Christian Lopes found a hole through the left side and knocked in a pair of runs, lifting the Aces to a 2-0 lead.
Neither team put a run on the board in the third and fourth innings before the Aviators' Marty Bechina cut the team's deficit in half, 2-1, on a solo shot down the left-field line in the fifth.
Brandyn Sittinger tossed a hitless seventh, striking out one batter in his inning of work before Junior Garcia punched out a pair in the top of the eighth.
The Aviators tied the game at two on an RBI single by Nate Mondau in the top of the ninth, eventually sending the game to extras for the second-straight night.
In extras, Las Vegas put a five-spot on the board, including a grand slam by Carlos Perez to go up, 7-2.
Drew Ellis drove in the Aces' final run of the game on a single to left in the bottom of the 10th before the game was closed out, 7-3.
Reno returns to action on Sunday against the Aviators, with the first pitch slated for 1:05 p.m. PT. Sunday's contest can be heard on renoaces.com or locally on KPLY 630 AM with Zack Bayrouty on the call.
