Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Hudson Valley Renegades pulled away from the Brooklyn Cyclones late to pick up an 8-3 win on Wednesday night at Maimonides Park.
Hudson Valley erupted for three runs in the top of the first inning and chased the Cyclones starter, Jeffrey Colon, out of the game after just eight batters. The inning was highlighted by an RBI triple from Rafael Flores and a run-scoring single from Anthony Garcia. Garcia later scored on a wild pitch to cap off the scoring and hand the Renegades an early 3-0 lead.
In his High-A debut, Brendan Beck struck out three and walked one in two scoreless frames. The lone hit allowed was an infield single by Alex Ramirez, the first batter he faced in the first inning.
After Indigo Diaz tossed two scoreless innings, Brooklyn broke through with a run in the fifth off Mason Vinyard. Chase Estep led off the frame with a single and advanced to second on a throwing error by Alexander Vargas. After a strikeout, Ramirez and Kevin Parada tallied back-to-back singles to score Estep and cut the 'Gades lead to 3-1.
The Cyclones tied the game at three in the seventh on a pair of hits from Ramirez and Parada. Estep worked a one-out walk off Jack Neely (3-1) before stealing second and advancing to third on a wild pitch. Ramirez brought home Estep two batters later with a single. Parada then blasted a triple to right field and Ramirez raced all the way around from first base to score and tie the game at 3-3.
The Renegades scored five unanswered runs to end the contest, including three in the eighth off Manny Rodriguez (1-3), and another two in the ninth. In the eighth, a pair of runs were walked in with the bases loaded while Aldenis Sanchez plated the other with a single. In the ninth, Sanchez blasted a triple to right field to score Antonio Gómez and Spencer Henson to end the scoring.
Nick Paciorek recorded the final four outs of the game to record his third save of the season, tying him for the team lead with two others. The win was Hudson Valley's 39th win of the season, the most wins for the Renegades in a half in club history. The Renegades and Cyclones wrap up the first half of the season on Thursday at Maimonides Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. with coverage on the Renegades Baseball Network beginning at 6:45 p.m. The Renegades will send LHP Joel Valdez (1-4, 6.14) to the mound opposite of RHP Tyler Stuart (1-0, 1.47) for the Cyclones.
