'Clones Pull Even Late, But Fall Down Stretch to 'Gades

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - For the second-straight night, the Brooklyn Cyclones fell to the Hudson Valley Renegades at Maimonides Park. After trailing for the entirety of the game, Brooklyn tied things up in the seventh frame. However, Hudson Valley tacked on five runs over the final two frames en route to the win.

Just one night after their North Division First Half clinching-win, the Renegades wasted little time to get going offensively. Hudson Valley scored three runs in the first, courtesy of an RBI triple from C Rafael Flores, RBI single from RF Anthony García, and a wild pitch issued by Brooklyn's starter, RHP Jeffrey Colón. The 23-year-old was removed after logging only 0.2 innings.

Despite the inauspicious start, Brooklyn's bullpen held the fort down from there. RHP Robert Colina came on in relief and proceeded to hurl 3.1 innings of 1-hit ball, while striking out seven.

Brooklyn countered offensively in the bottom of the fifth. With two on and one out, C Kevin Parada singled home 1B Chase Estep for Brooklyn's first run of the night.

Two frames later, the Cyclones erased the then two-run deficit. It started when LF Alex Ramírez popped a single to right, scoring Estep. One batter later, Parada smoked a triple to right, plating Ramírez.

The game would not remain tied for long, though. The top of the eight saw Hudson Valley touch home three times, thanks to an RBI single from LF Aldenis Sánchez and two bases loaded walks. The Renegades tacked on two more runs of insurance in the ninth, when Sanchez tripled home a pair to push the lead to 8-3. Brooklyn did not have an answer in the home ninth.

The Cyclones are back at it against the Renegades tomorrow to close the first half of play. RHP Tyler Stuart (1-0, 1.47 ERA), Minor League Baseball's ERA leader, will toe the slab against LHP Joel Valdez (1-4, 6.14 ERA).
