Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

Lakewood, N.J. - The Hudson Valley Renegades never trailed as they fended off the Jersey Shore BlueClaws 6-4 on Saturday night at ShoreTown Ballpark.

The Renegades took the lead with a three-run outburst in the top of the third. Eduardo Torrealba, Luis Santos and Alexander Vargas strung three straight singles together off Jordan Fowler to plate the first run of the frame, and Ben Cowles followed with a two-run double to left to give Hudson Valley a 3-0 lead.

The BlueClaws immediately answered with a run in the bottom of the third off Juan Carela. Wilfredo Flores led off with a double and scored on a two-out RBI single by Rixon Wingrove to cut the deficit to 3-1. Carela settled in and allowed two runs on seven hits across 5.1 innings, striking out six and not allowing a walk.

In the top of the fifth, Santos created a run by leading off with a single, stealing second and advancing to third on an errant throw by Anthony Quirion, and scoring on a Vargas sacrifice fly. Jersey Shore inched closer in the sixth on a Gabriel Rincones, Jr. home run off Carela, his third long ball of the series.

Jared Carr led off the bottom of the seventh with a double off Mason Vinyard and scored three batters later on an RBI single from Nick Ward. After Rincones doubled to left to put runners at second and third, Vinyard (1-0) uncorked a wild pitch to score Ward and tie the game at 4-4.

The Renegades wasted no time striking back in the top of the eighth, with Rafael Flores and Anthony Garcia reaching to start the frame against Jack Dallas (1-1). With one out, Aldenis Sanchez bounced a two-run single to center scoring both runners and handing Hudson Valley the lead back at 6-4.

Bailey Dees worked around runners on the bases in the eighth and ninth to record a six-out save and close out the game. It was his team-leading fourth save of the season.

Hudson Valley and Jersey Shore complete their series on Sunday night at ShoreTown Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m., with pregame coverage on the Renegades Baseball Network beginning at 12:45. RHP Drew Thorpe (7-1, 2.33) takes the mound for the Renegades against LHP Matt Osterberg (5-4, 3.76) for the BlueClaws. It is the final game before the 2023 All-Star Break for both teams.

Renegades Record: 46-34, 7-7
