Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. - The Hudson Valley Renegades were swept by the Jersey Shore BlueClaws in a quasi-doubleheader on Wednesday night at Dutchess Stadium. The Renegades fell 10-7 to complete a suspended series opener in Game 1, and later suffered a 2-1 loss in extra innings of a seven-inning Game 2.
Following the resumption of Game 1 with Jersey Shore leading 7-4 entering the bottom of the fifth inning, RHP Cristian Hernandez (5-3) toed the rubber for Jersey Shore and RHP Trevor Holloway took the ball for Hudson Valley.
In the top of the seventh, Rixon Wingrove drew a bases-loaded walk to extend the BlueClaws lead to 8-4.
Hudson Valley crept closer in the bottom of the eighth against Erubiel Armenta. Tyler Hardman lifted a towering three-run homer to cut the deficit to 8-7.
In the top of the ninth, Jersey Shore added insurance against Carlos Gomez. Wingrove lined an RBI triple and Anthony Quirion blooped an RBI single to extend the lead to 10-7.
Brett Schulze recorded the final four outs to earn his first save and secure the win for Jersey Shore.
In Game 2, the BlueClaws jumped ahead in the top of the second against Renegades starter Blas Castaño. Wingrove doubled and came around to score on an error to give Jersey Shore a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth, Hudson Valley pulled even against BlueClaws starter Carlo Reyes. Hardman launched another long ball, a solo shot to left to level the score at one. The drive marked Hardman's 21st of the season, and eighth in 23 games in the month of August. He leads all Yankees minor leaguers in home runs.
Castaño tossed six excellent innings, allowing one unearned run on four hits, walking one and striking out seven. The right-hander completed at least six innings for the seventh time this season, the most on the staff, and held his opponent to two runs or fewer for a 14th time.
The seven-inning game remained tied into extras. In the top of the eighth, Baron Radcliff bounced an RBI single off Wellington Diaz (2-2) to put Jersey Shore in front 2-1. Spanning back to the start of the series opener on Tuesday night, Radcliff finished the two games 4-for-8 with two homers, six RBIs, a double, a walk, and two runs scored.
Hudson Valley put two runners on with one out in the bottom of the eighth, but Rodolfo Sanchez (1-1) set down Grant Richardson on a double play to lock down the victory.
Hudson Valley continues its six-game series with Jersey Shore on Thursday night at Dutchess Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Coverage begins on the Renegades Baseball Network at 6:45.
