Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY -The Hudson Valley Renegades pounded out a season-high 16 hits, and three different players collected three hits, as they easily defeated the Connecticut Tigers 10-2 Thursday night at Dutchess Stadium to take the rubber game of the three-game series.

Connecticut drew first blood in the second. With a runner at second and two away, catcher Sam McMillan took off for third on a steal attempt. Hudson Valley catcher Chris Betts' throw to third sailed into leftfield, which allowed McMillan to score and give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

However, Hudson Valley roared back with three runs in the bottom-half as the first five men of the inning reached base. Two singles and a walk loaded the bases before leftfielder Michael Smith roped a single to left to score two runs. With runners at the corners and still no one out, rightfielder Bryce Brown looped a single to left-centerfield to bring in another run and up Hudson Valley's lead to 3-1.

The Renegades added another run in the third when Betts homered for the third time in as many days with a solo shot down the rightfield line. The dinger was his league-leading seventh of the season and made the score 4-1.

But it was the fourth inning where the Renegades busted the game open with four runs. With a runner at third and one out, shortstop Ford Proctor lined a single to right to make it 5-1, which was followed by another single and walk to load the bases. From there, Betts lifted a sac fly to left to bring in another run and all three baserunners moved up a bag. Runners stood at second and third with two away when designated hitter Erik Ostberg reached on an infield single to second to score one run. On the play, Connecticut second baseman Isrrael De La Cruz bobbled the ball, which allowed second baseman Tyler Frank to score from second and give Hudson Valley a seven-run advantage.

Hudson Valley added another run in the sixth as a wild pitch from Connecticut reliever Victor Mueses scored Proctor from third. The Tigers got a run back in the seventh as leftfielder Clark Brinkman brought in a runner from third on a single to center to make it 9-2. However, in the bottom-half, third baseman Adrian Rondon got the run back on a long solo shot down the leftfield line to give Hudson Valley a 10-2 lead. The blast was his third of the season.

Getting the win for Hudson Valley in relief was Nick Lee (1-0) who tossed two hitless innings and registered three strikeouts. The loss fell to Connecticut starter Carson Lance (1-2) after he gave up eight runs, seven earned, on 10 hits in only 3.2 innings. Though he didn't figure in the decision, Renegades starter Michael Mercado fired four innings of two-hit ball while giving up an unearned run. The right-hander also struck out seven.

Everyone in Hudson Valley's lineup had at least one hit. Proctor went 3-5 with a double, RBI and two runs scored. Ostberg finished 3-4 with an RBI and run. Brown went 3-4 with and RBI, and Smith chipped in by going 2-4 with two RBI and run. 13 of the 16 hits for Hudson Valley were singles.

The Tigers had eight hits, but six of them came over the final three innings of the game when the score was out of hand. McMillan finished 3-4 with a double, stolen base and a run scored. Brinkman also collected two hits with an RBI.

The Renegades now welcome the Vermont Lake Monsters to Dutchess Stadium tomorrow with a 7:05 start. Right-hander Nick Padilla (2-3, 2.05 ERA) will toe the bump for Hudson Valley against fellow righty Adam Reuss (1-1, 5.19 ERA).
