Batavia Muckdogs News Release

WILLIAMSPORT, PA - Batavia bounced back from a sweep from the Lowell Spinners with a sweep of their own over the Williamsport Crosscutters, and the Muckdogs did not waste any time getting on the board. The 'dogs took game three of the series with conviction, winning 13-5. Batavia set new season highs in runs in a game (13), hits (17), home runs in a game (3) and win margin (8). The Muckdogs scored in every inning except the fifth, eighth and ninth.

From the start of the game, Batavia was able to get the bats going against Fransisco Morales, the Phillies' #18 prospect, per MLB.com. The Muckdogs put up three runs in the first inning. Chris Torres, the Marlins' #15 prospect hit an infield single down the third base line to start the offense. Jerar Encarnacion followed up with one of his four hits in the game to put two runners on base with only one out. Sean Reynolds drew the first of his two walks to load the bases in the first frame. JD Osborne snagged the first of his season-high four RBIs by drawing a walk with the bases loaded. Then, with two outs, Denis Karas drove home two more runners with a single to center to make it a 3-0 ballgame after the top of the first.

That first spurt gave Tanner Andrews some run support in his first professional start. Andrews kept the Crosscutters scoreless through the first three only giving up two hits.

The Muckdogs' second inning resulted in only one run. Demetrius Sims led off the inning with a walk. He then stole his team-leading sixth bag by swiping second base. A groundout to shortstop put him on third, and he then scored on a wild pitch to give Batavia a 4-0 lead after two.

Sean Reynolds and JD Osborne gave Batavia some more pop in the third inning. Reynolds tied the league lead with his sixth homer of the season, and JD Osborne followed it up with his second professional home run for back-to-back jacks for the Muckdogs. That is the first time this season Batavia has produced consecutive home runs.

Batavia scored three more runs in the fourth. A one-out single from Brayan Hernandez set up the first of two runs that scored on Chris Torres' opposite-field home run. After that homerun, Torres was just a triple away from the cycle. The next at-bat, Jerar Encarnacion smoked a double to keep the inning alive, and he scored on another RBI from Osborne, who knocked in his third on the play. The Muckdogs had a commanding 9-0 lead after the fourth inning.

Williamsport scored their first run when Brayan Gonzalez hit a bases-loaded sacrifice fly to center field to score Madison Stokes to put the Crosscutters on the board. They put up three more in the fifth. The first came from an RBI double from Stokes, who was brought in on a two-run homerun from Ben Pellitier to make it 9-4 after the fifth.

Despite being held scoreless in the fifth, Batavia bounced right back with two more in the sixth to continue their offensive onslaught. Torres led the inning off with a walk. He then advanced to both second and third on wild pitches, and then scored on a balk from Oscar Marcelino. Sean Reynolds would draw another walk one out later. Osborne proceeded to smack a double to drive in his fourth run of the day. His four RBIs tie a season high by a single player, the only other time it occurred was when Brayan Hernandez hit a walk-off grand slam against the West Virginia Black Bears.

Two more runs scored in the seventh for Batavia, the first from Chris Torres' sacrifice fly to score Sims, and the second from Encarnacion's third hit of the day to score Luke Jarvis. The Muckdogs had set a new season high in runs scored in a game after that inning with 13.

The only other run that the Crosscutters scored was in the seventh off a bases loaded walk from Dylan Cyphert.

The sweep over the Crosscutters is the second of the year for the 'dogs, who welcome the Mahoning Valley Scrappers to Dwyer Stadium for a three game series. Batavia is 2-1 against the division leaders this season. Afterwards, the Staten Island Yankees roll in after the league off day on Monday.
