Norwich Sea Unicorns News Release

WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY - 2018 Detroit Tigers seventh-round draft pick Eric De La Rosa extended his on-base streak to 12 straight games since joining the Connecticut Tigers (16-17) on July 5 but his team allowed a season-high 10 runs and 16 hits in a 10-2 loss to the Hudson Valley Renegades (20-12) on Thursday at Dutchess Stadium.

The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second when catcher and Detroit Tigers top-15 prospect Sam McMillan navigated the bases on a single, wild pitch, stolen base, and throwing error by fellow catcher Chris Betts to move into a tie for second on the team with 10 runs scored in 25 games this season. McMillan recorded his first three-hit game for Connecticut with a double and a stolen base.

Connecticut starter Carson Lance (Loss, 1-2) failed to record a shutdown inning in the bottom of the second as the Renegades plated three runs to take the lead for good on a two-run single by left fielder Michael Smith and an RBI single by right fielder Bryce Brown. Betts ripped his third home run against the Tigers in three nights on a solo homer in the third to make it a 4-1 lead for Hudson Valley.

Lance allowed four more runs before exiting in the fourth. The 23-year-old righty gave up a career-high eight runs and 10 hits before Victor Mueses relieved him with four strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings. Arvicent Perez gave up his first homer as a pro to Adrian Rondon in the seventh.

Tigers center fielder Eric De La Rosa extended his team-best, on-base streak to 12 games since joining Connecticut on July 5. The 21-year-old Grossmont College alum walked twice on Thursday and pushed his on-base percentage to .500 in a dozen New York-Penn League games this season.

Left fielder and 32nd-round draft pick Clark Brinkman singled in his Connecticut debut on an RBI single in the seventh that scored fellow debutant designated hitter Jordan Verdon to cut the Renegades lead to 9-2.

Connecticut lost five of six games during its only two series at Hudson Valley this season and the Tigers were outscored 49-10 by the Renegades. Connecticut entered the series finale with a .500 win-loss record but failed to pick up the victory that would secure a winning record for the first time since June 17 when the Tigers were 2-1.

On Friday, the Tigers open a three-game road series against the IronBirds in Aberdeen, Maryland. Connecticut left-handed pitcher Adam Wolf (1-1, 5.59) draws the start with first pitch from the IronBirds scheduled at 7:05 p.m. Coverage on the Norwich Courtyard by Marriott Connecticut Tigers Radio Network begins at 6:50 p.m. on WICH 1310 AM across Connecticut and online at CTTigers.com via TuneIn Radio.
