Muckdogs Game Notes
July 19, 2018 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Batavia Muckdogs News Release
Today's Game- The Muckdogs are in Williamsport, PA to go for the sweep of the Crosscutters. The first two games of the series went into extras, and Batavia can clinch their second series sweep of the season with a win tonight. Batavia has yet to lose a game in the state of Pennsylvania this season.
That was last night- After tying the game on an RBI double from Bubba Hollins in the second inning, both teams went scoreless from innings three to nine. Batavia got the go-ahead run in the tenth from a Brayan Hernandez RBI single, and a clutch pickoff from Igor Baez helped the Muckdogs get the W.
Donadio digging in- Michael Donadio has now hits in eight of his last nine games. He's tallied ten hits, and has crossed the plate five times in that span. He is tied for second on the team with two home runs. He left St. John's with the second most all-time hits with 268.
Reynolds Raking- Sean Reynolds has been able to find the power in his bat this season. He currently is second in the league in home runs, RBI's leads the league in runs scored. He is also the league leader in walks with 21.
Jammed Up July- Batavia's offense has slowed up significantly in the month of July. They have opened up the first half of the month with a 7-9 record, and have scored only 3.6 runs per game. That has taken a steep decline from the 5.2 runs per game that the Muckdogs were putting up in June.
Flipping the script- To start off the season, Batavia had settled themselves within the top five in the NYPL in batting average and runs, but have since slipped from that peak. Meanwhile, the opposite has happened for the pitching staff. The Muckdogs arms have now settled with the fifth best ERA in the league after starting off in the bottom end of the league.
Beginning from behind- The Muckdogs have had trouble with giving up early leads in ballgames. Batavia has trailed after the fifth inning on 16 different occasions so far this season, and have gone 4-12 in those contests.
Recent Roster Action- On July 18th, Bubba Hollins and Gunnar Schubert were promoted to Greensboro, and SS Chris Torres was recalled from the GCL Marlins
Marlins Update- The Marlins are on the last day of the All-Star break.
