Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. - The Aberdeen IronBirds squeaked by the Hudson Valley Renegades 1-0 on Thursday night at Heritage Financial Park, handing Hudson Valley its third straight loss.
Renegades starter Zach Messinger got off to a quick start striking out the first two batters of the game before issuing a pair of walks to bring up Isaac De Leon, whom Messinger struck out to end the threat in the first inning. It was the start of a strong outing for Messinger (0-3), who allowed one unearned run across 5.0 innings while setting a new career high with nine strikeouts.
Aberdeen scored the game's only run in the second on a Max Costes single that scored Silas Ardoin. Ardoin began the frame with a single, advanced to second on a passed ball and third on a wild pitch before coming home on Costes' base hit.
Hudson Valley had runners on base in seven of nine times at bat, but failed to score. One of their best chances came in the third after Spencer Jones hit a one-out double down the left field line off Jean Pinto. Pinto retired the next two Renegades to leave Jones stranded at third.
In his Renegades debut, Indigo Diaz struck out three in two perfect innings of work, while Jack Neely followed that up with three more strikeouts across two more perfect innings. Messinger, Diaz and Neely combined to retire the final 15 IronBirds batters of the game, and 19 of the final 20.
The Renegades had one last chance in the bottom of the ninth after Graham Firoved walked Ben Cowles and Aldenis Sánchez to put the tying and winning runs on base with no outs. Firoved retired the next three batters to end the contest. It was the second time the Renegades have been shut out in the series.
Hudson Valley and Aberdeen will continue their six-game series on Friday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m., with coverage on the Renegades Baseball Network beginning at 6:45 p.m. The Renegades will send RHP Juan Carela (2-2, 3.44) to the hill opposite of RHP Daniel Federman (2-1, 4.58) for the IronBirds.
Renegades Record: 27-21
