Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. - Trey Sweeney's 4-for-4 night and Everson Pereira's record-breaking home run sparked the Hudson Valley Renegades to their ninth straight win, downing the Greenville Drive 6-3 on Tuesday night at Dutchess Stadium.
In the first game of his MLB rehab assignment, Ben Rortvedt finished 0-for-2 with a walk, while playing five innings at catcher. Rortvedt was the first MLB rehabber to play for the Renegades at Dutchess Stadium since 2007.
Greenville jumped ahead against Hudson Valley starter Matt Sauer in the top of the second inning. Gilberto Jimenez lined an RBI triple, scoring Nathan Hickey from first to give the Drive a 1-0 lead.
Sauer (5-1) bounced back to toss five strong innings, allowing only one run on three hits, walking two and striking out six.
The Renegades responded in the bottom of the fifth against Drive starter Shane Drohan (4-6) to take the lead. With two outs, Sweeney singled and Pereira launched a two-run homer to left-center to catapult Hudson Valley in front 2-1.
The home run was Pereira's ninth of the season and 23rd in his Hudson Valley career, setting a new all-time franchise record. He breaks the record held by Dan Grummitt set in 1999.
In the bottom of the sixth against Austin Lambright, Anthony Seigler hustled out a leadoff double, stole third, and scored on a T.J. Rumfield grounder to extend the Renegades lead to 3-1.
Hudson Valley tacked on three in the bottom of the seventh off Casey Cobb to create a 6-1 cushion. Sweeney slammed his fourth hit, an RBI single to right, and Carlos Narvaez smoked an opposite-field two-run homer.
Alex Mauricio tossed two shutout innings of relief, allowing only one hit, striking out three and walking none.
Nicholas Northcut crushed a two-run homer in the top of the ninth to trim the deficit to 6-3, but Nelson Alvarez quickly settled back in to secure the victory.
Hudson Valley continues its series with Greenville tomorrow morning at Dutchess Stadium. RHP Blas Castaño (3-6, 3.06) takes the ball for the Renegades, while the Drive counter with RHP Wyatt Olds (1-6, 6.65). First pitch is scheduled for 11:05 a.m. Coverage begins on the Renegades Baseball Network at 10:45. For tickets and more information, slide to www.hvrenegades.com.
