Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Winston-Salem Dash staged a furious ninth-inning rally, but lost 13-7 to Asheville in a rain-shortened contest.
Colson Montgomery got Winston-Salem on the board right away, when he blasted a solo home run in the top of the first inning. Of course, that also extended his on-base streak to 46 straight games.
Asheville got that run back quickly. Michael Sandle reached first base on a fielder's choice, then JC Correa grounded the first pitch he saw to third base. A poor throw by Bryan Ramos sailed over first base, and Sandle came all the way around to score to tie the game at 1.
Chase Solesky retired the first two batters of the second inning, before issuing a walk to CJ Stubbs**.* *Deury Carrasco* singled following the free pass, and Stubbs advanced to third. Then, *Quincy Hamilton* smacked a single up the middle to plate Stubbs. After a mound visit, Hamilton swiped second base, and then scored along with Carrasco on a double by Michael Sandle to put the Tourists ahead 4-1. A *Zach Daniels** home run in the third inning pushed the deficit to 5-1.
Solesky battled back to hold Asheville off the board in the fourth and fifth innings, but Asheville starting pitcher Cesar Gomez kept the Dash bats silent as well.
Asheville got another run in the bottom of the sixth, on another RBI knock by Hamilton, to score CJ Stubbs. Michael Sandle then pushed Hamilton across on a triple into center, and then JC Correa cranked a two-strike, two-run blast to left field to give the Tourists a 9-1 lead.
Winston-Salem cut the lead to 9-2 when Adam Hackenberg dashed home on a wild pitch, but Asheville countered in the home half of the seventh. The Tourists hit a pair of two-run home runs in the inning, one from Luis Gurrero and another from Stubbs, to give themselves a 13-2 advantage.
But as the Dash have shown all season long, there is no quit in this team.
Luis Mieses clobbered a leadoff home run in the top of the ninth, then both Adam Hackenberg and Harvin Mendoza worked walks. After those two, Alsander Womack picked up a two-strike single to load the bases. A passed ball allowed everyone to advance 90 feet, with Hackenberg scoring. Then, Ben Norman worked himself into an advantageous 3-1 count before crushing a three-run home run to cut the Asheville lead to 13-7. Unfortunately, a rainstorm passed over McCormick Field, and the rest of the game was called off due to the weather. Asheville took a 13-7 victory, with Gomez getting the win on his record, and Solesky taking the loss for the Dash.
