
Renegades Alum to Join the New York Mets

Renegades Alum to join the Mets â Earlier today, the New York Mets announced that Bartolome Fortunato, who played with the Renegades in 2001, would be joining the major league team. Fortunato was acquired by the Mets along with Victor Zambrano earlier this month with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
Fortunato had a 3.38 ERA in six appearances for Class AAA Norfolk. He was 4-3 with nine saves and a 2.42 ERA for Durham before the deal. Fortunato also had a 3.68 ERA in three games for the Devil Rays this season.
Former Renegades in the Majors â Fortunato joins 11 other Renegades Alumni who are currently in the Major Leagues, including Mets relief pitcher Dan Wheeler â97.
Jorge Cantu â99, Toby Hall â97 and Travis Harper '98 are all playing for the Renegades parent club, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

Working Their Way Back - Both Seth McClung â00 and Doug Waechter â00 are currently playing with the Devil Rays AAA-affiliate, the Durham Bulls while recovering from different injuries. Waechter, who was sidelined with a strained tendon in his right middle finger, is 0-0 record with a 10.05 ERA in 5 games started with the Bulls this season. McClung is recovering from Tommy John surgery and is 2-1 with an ERA of 5.87 in 6 games with Durham, all in relief.
Former âGades in Arizona Fall League â Former Renegades manager Charlie Montoyo (1998) will be managing the Mesa (AZ) Solar Sox during the 2004 edition of the Arizona Fall League. Along with Montoyo, Montgomery Biscuits C Shawn Riggans (2002) will be joining the Solar Sox.
The Arizona Fall League, owned and operated by Major League Baseball, is set to begin its 13th season Oct. 5. The league is widely regarded as the "Graduate School" for Major League Baseball's top prospects.
