New Jersey Cardinals News Release

This evening at Skylands Park in Augusta, New Jersey, the New Jersey Cardinals (St. Louis Cardinals) and Williamsport Crosscutters (Pittsburgh Pirates) split a pair of games, with Williamsport (27-31) winning the opener, 3-1, and New Jersey (31-27) taking the nightcap, 5-1. With the win, the Cardinals snapped a 5-game losing streak against the Crosscutters and avoided being swept in back-to-back doubleheaders.

The Cardinals won the second game behind a strong effort from the bullpen. Austin Tubb (3-1) picked up the win in relief, and Mike Gross and Cory Doyne also made scoreless relief outings. With those relief efforts, the Cardinals bullpen ran its string of consecutive scoreless innings pitched to 28.2. Chris Patrick led the offense for the Cards, banging out 2 hits and driving in 2 runs while scoring another. In the two games, Patrick was 4-for-6 with 3 RBI. Luis Munoz (2-3) suffered the loss for Williamsport.

In game one, Cards starter Miguel Aguero (4-4) was the tough luck loser, pitching all 7 innings and allowing just 2 earned runs while striking out 5. Crosscutters starter Kyle Bloom (3-3) picked up the win, while Dustin Craig got the last two outs for his 9th save of the season.

The Cards and Crosscutters finish their 5-game set with a single game on Friday night at 7:15. Saturday night, the first-place Brooklyn Cyclones pay a visit to Skylands Park as the Cards try to solidify their hold on a playoff spot. First pitch is set for 5:00 pm. Friday night is fireworks night sponsored by Condit Toyota, Toyota Motors USA and The Star Ledger. Saturday, Phils Ford sponsors a baseball giveaway and post-game is Family Catch on the Field.
