Frederick Keys News Release
Kinston, NC -- Nolan Reimold paced the Keys' offense going 3-for-4 with a solo home run to help Craig Anderson defeat Scott Lewis and the Kinston Indians, 4-0 for the second time in as many nights.
Reimold, who has been mired in a slump throughout the second half of the season continued his hot-hitting against the Indians, batting .367 with 6 HR's and 16 RBI's against the Carolina League's best pitching staff.
Anderson and Lewis matched each other frame-for-frame through three innings keeping the game scoreless. But Reimold launched a solo home run off Lewis in the top of the fourth to give the Keys a 1-0 lead. The next 11 batters were retired in order, until Reimold singled in the top of the sixth inning. Randy Newsom replaced Lewis and promptly gave up a single to Mario Delgado, before retiring Vito Chiaravalotti to end the threat.
Cody Bunkelman replaced Newsom in the top of the eighth and then the Keys went to work. Tripper Johnson doubled to right field and Reimold singled to left to move Johnson to third. Johnson then scored on Bunkelman's wild pitch to Chiaravalotti. Pete Maestrales drew a two-out walk and Arturo Rivas doubled to drive in two runs to give the Keys a comfortable 4-0 lead.
The Indians threatened in the bottom of the eighth with two consecutive singles, before Brandon Pinckney grounded into a double play. That would be the Indians best chance, as Carlos Jan came on in the bottom of the ninth to seal the game for the Keys.
Anderson (5-1) earned another victory, scattering six hits over 5.2 innings. Fredy Deza tossed 2.1 scoreless innings in relief before Jan finished the ninth.
Lewis (3-3), took the tough luck loss, allowing just one run on four hits.
The Keys and Indians will play the third and final game of their three game series on Wednesday at 7:00 PM. RHP Matt Bruback will take the mound for the Keys.
KEYNOTES: With C Sandy Madera on the disabled list 1B Vito Chiaravalotti was transferred from Low-A Delmarva on Saturday. Chiaravalotti was previously with the Toronto Blue Jays organization before coming to the Orioles in July.
With Potomac's loss the Keys are now 5.5 games in front of the Nationals with 12 games to go. The Keys just need to finish in front of Potomac to clinch their second consecutive play-off berth, the second time in franchise history the Keys have gone to the playoffs in back-to-back years. Keys playoff tickets go on sale on Friday, August 25th at 9:00 AM.
