THE HILLCATS...Begin their final homestand of the year with a doubleheader against the Winston-Salem Warthogs...Are playing a twin bill due to a rain out at City Stadium on July 19th between the two sides...Earned a series win by defeating the Wilmington Blue Rocks 4-2 at Frawley Stadium on Sunday afternoon... Are in a stretch of playing 14 out of 17 games at home (4-6)...Are just 19-39 (.328) over their last 58 games...Are currently 10.0-games out of the final playoff spot in the Northern Division...

THE WARTHOGS...Have lost 3 straight games entering this series...Are just 7-16 (.304) in their last 23 games...Are in danger of not qualifying for the post-season for the first time since 2002...

TRANSACTIONS: C Octavio Martinez (see page 7) was assigned to Lynchburg from Double-AAltoona Friday...The 27-year-old has hit safely in each of his first two games in a Hillcats uniform...He had been sidelined since May 13th with a broken hand...In addition, RHP Clayton Hamilton was placed on the Disabled List Friday (oblique)...He had missed nearly two months with a similiar injury that occurred in mid-June...

RECORD TIED: OF Pedro Powell equaled a Hillcats record by swiping his 57th base of the season on Sunday afternoon...He leads the Carolina League with 57 steals (71 attempts)...The Hillcats record for stolen bases in a campaign was set by Rajai Davis in 2004 ...

SEASON-HIGH: RHP Ramon Linares matched a season-high by working 4.0 innings or scoreless, hitless relief in Sunday's 4-2 win...In addition, the 27-year-old earned his second save of the year...

STREAK SNAPPED: LHP Kyle Bloom (6-8) snapped a personal three-game losing streak on Sunday by tossing 5.0 innings of five hit, two run baseball...The southpaw's last win came exactly one month prior, on July 20th against Winston-Salem at City Stadium...

RUNNING MAN: SS Brent Lillibridge has scored a team-best 20 runs in the last 19 games...He had hit safely in 6 straight games (11-26, .423-0-3) prior to going 0-4 last night...In addition, he has swiped 44 bases this season between Low-A Hickory and Lynchburg...

TONIGHT'S OPPONENT (Game 1): Clayton Richard, 22, is a 6-0, 175-pound left-hander selected by Chicago (AL) in the 8th round of the 2005 draft. The University of Michigan product combined to go 3-2 with a 5.21 ERA (48.1 ip/28 er) in 20 games (7 starts) with Advanced Rookie Bristol and Great Falls last year. He began this season with Low-A Kannapolis and posted a 6-6 record with a 3.67 ERA (95.2 ip, 117 h, 47 r, 39 er, 28 bb, 54 k). He also played football at Michigan and became Michigan's first twosport baseball player since basketball's Robbie Reid (1998-1999) and hockey's Matt Herr (1996-1998). Was 8-15 for 52 yards as a backup quarterback in 2004 and earned Big Ten All-Academic honors.

TONIGHT'S OPPONENT (Game 2): Michael Moat, 24, is a 6-1, 190-pound right-hander selected by Chicago (AL) in the 19th round of the 2005 draft. The Boulder, Colorado native combined to go 7-3 with a 3.14 ERA (91.2 ip/32 er) between Low-A Kannapolis and Winston-Salem last year. This year, he has gone 5-5 with a 3.22 ERA (78.1 ip, 86 h, 31 r, 28 er, 11 bb, 37 k) in 32 games with the Warthogs. He played collegiately at San Diego State University and was a Louisville Slugger All-America honorable mention in 2001. Originally was selected by Texas in the 11th round of the 2000 draft but did not sign.
