Winston-Salem Dash News Release

Winston-Salem, NC - The Lynchburg Hillcats swept a doubleheader over the Winston-Salem Warthogs taking game one 5-1 and winning the nightcap 6-1 on Tuesday night at Calvin Falwell Field. The Warthogs overall losing streak has moved to five games and their road losing streak is now at nine.

In game one, both teams were held scoreless until the fourth inning when Hillcats first baseman Steve Pearce hit a three-run home run off Warthogs starter Clayton Richard to give Lynchburg a 3-0 lead. The Hillcats would get RBI hits from Mike Carlin and John Suomi in the fifth inning to increase their lead to a 5-0. The Warthogs added a late run on an RBI fly ball by Cory Haggerty to score Adam Ricks and provide Winston-Salem's only run.

Richard (0-2) lasted four plus innings and gave up five runs on nine hits in taking the loss for Winston-Salem. Hillcats starting pitcher Luis Munoz (3-3) tossed his first complete game of the season, as he allowed one run on only three hits to earn the victory.

The Warthogs jumped out to a 1-0 lead in game two when Adam Ricks hit an RBI single to score Josh Hansen in the second inning. That was the only bright spot of the game as Lynchburg scored three runs in their half of the second to take a 3-1 lead. The Hillcats added two runs in the fourth and one more in the fifth inning to move their lead to 6-1.

Michael Moat (5-6) did not make it out of the third inning, although he only gave up one earned run on four hits, while striking out four to take the loss. Ian Heisel (1-0) collected his first win after tossing two shutout innings in relief of starting pitcher Yoann Torrealba.

The third game of the four-game series will take place at 7 PM at Calvin Falwell Field in Lynchburg, Virginia. The Warthogs will send LHP Ray Liotta to the mound. The Hillcats will counter with RHP Matt Lorenzo.
