Ontario Reign News Release
STOCKTON, Calif. - The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the NHL Los Angeles Kings and AHL Manchester Monarchs, defeated the Stockton Thunder, 2-1, Sunday afternoon before a crowd of 5,004 fans at Stockton Arena.
After a scoreless first period, the Reign took an early 1-0 lead. Defenseman Darren McMillan fired a shot on goal from the right wing side of the zone. Forward Dale Reinhardt was ready in front of the net, and deflected McMillan's shot into the net off of Stockton goaltender Andrew Perugini's glove. Reinhardt's goal marked the only scoring between the two clubs in the first two periods of play.
After holding a 1-0 lead for most of the game, the Reign gave one up to the Thunder at 3:43 in the third period. Stockton tied up the game when defenseman Mark Adamek found open ice in the high slot and beat Ontario netminder Jeff Zatkoff with a five-hole snipe. Center Craig Valette and right wing James Bates registered the assists on the play.
Ontario took the lead for the second time in the match with just over 10 minutes left to play in regulation. From his position right next to the goal line, right wing Bud Holloway lifted the puck up and over Perugini, who couldn't cover up the open net on his blocker side. Defenseman David Walker and center Jon Francisco picked up the assist on Holloway's equalizer goal. The Thunder pulled Perugini for the extra attacker, but weren't able to find the back of the net. Ontario claimed the win with a final score of Reign 2, Thunder 1.
