Johnstown, PA- The Johnstown Chiefs struck for three third period goals in a 5-4 final at the War Memorial today in Johnstown. Jackals forward Chaz Johnson netted one goal and added an assist in the contest, but the goal from Andy Contois late in the third proved to be the game winner for Johnstown. Elmira challenges Dayton this weekend at the Nutter Center in Dayton.
The Chiefs opened the scoring at the 7:27 mark when Blair Yaworski beat Elmira goalie Mitch O'Keefe low blocker. Konkle and Pohl assisted on the play. The Jackals put heavy pressure on Johnstown goalie Sebastian Dahm and cracked him on their eighth shot of the period at the 11:55 mark. Steve Yetman put a perfect pass back door for the waiting Chaz Johnson who fired home his first goal as a Jackal this season. The opening frame closed out at 1-1 with Elmira holding an 11-7 shot advantage.
The second period opened with a Toby LaFrance goal just 1:24 in. Del Monte and Sarauer assisted on the power play tally. The Jackals would strike back 27 seconds later when Paul McIlveen netted his 17th goal of the season on a Guillaume Lepine rebound. Steve Yetman added two his 47 points with an assist on the play. The Jackals took a 3-2 lead when Pierre-Luc Faubert netted a short handed goal at the 15:04 mark. Faubert's break a way was his 19th of the season.
Elmira would take a 4-2 lead at the 2:22 mark of the third. Nathan Lutz blasted home his seventh of the season. Johnson and Doucet assisted on the play. Johnstown would go on a three goal, goal scoring spree. The first came at the 3:25 mark, Blair Yaworski's 15th of the season. At the 8:32 mark Mike Knight would fire a slap shot over the blocker of Mitch O'Keefe to tie the game at 4-4. Andrew Contois would net the game winner at the 14:03 mark when he slid the puck underneath the pads of O'Keefe.
With the loss Elmira falls to 31-24-1-4 while Johnstown improves to 33-24-3-0.
