Anchorage, AK - The Las Vegas Wranglers® (27-25-8, 62 Points) were defeated by the Alaska Aces (35-21-3, 73 points) 6-2 on Saturday night at Sullivan Arena. Alaska left wing Lance Galbraith led the charge, scoring two goals while winger Brett Hemmingway dished out four assists. Defenseman Nick Tuzzolino added a goal and two assists as the Aces improved to 23-7-1 at home this year. Las Vegas forwards Chris Neiszner and Tyler Mosienko each scored in the defeat. Las Vegas goalie Glenn Fisher (7-4-1) made 35 saves in the loss. Former Wranglers goalie Kevin Nastiuk stopped 17 Las Vegas shots in the win. The Wranglers will play again at 6:05 PM (PST) on Sunday night in Anchorage.
Alaska built a 3-0 first period lead in the first 11:00 minutes of the game. Left wing Lance Galbraith broke the game's scoreless tie at 5:57, scoring his 13th goal of the year and giving Alaska a 1-0 lead. The Aces doubled their lead at 8:23 with Matt Stefanishion's 15th tally of the year, giving Alaska a 2-0 lead. Defenseman Corbin Schmidt capped off a three-goal first period outburst for Alaska at 11:00. Schmidt's third goal of the season gave Alaska a 3-0 lead after one period of play. The Aces outshot the Wranglers 17-2 in the opening period.
In the second period, Las Vegas center Tyler Mosienko scored his 18th goal of the year at 5:21. Mosienko's tally was set up by Chris Neiszner and Adam Miller. The even-strength tally trimmed the Alaska lead to 3-1. The Aces charged back with a pair of goals before the end of the period. Alaska's Alexandre Imbeault scored his 17th goal of the year at 12:12, increasing the Aces lead to 4-1. Defenseman Nick Tuzzolino scored his fourth goal of the season at 17:44 on the power play, expanding the Aces lead to 5-1 after two periods of play.
In the third period, Las Vegas center Chris Neiszner scored his 18th goal of the season at 9:19. Sean Owens and rookie Ray Leroux assisted on the goal that trimmed the Alaska lead to 5-2. Galbraith ended the scoring for the evening, scoring his second goal of the night and 14th goal of the season at 16:40 for the 6-2 final.
The Wranglers finish a ten-game road trip with one more game in Alaska on Sunday night at 6:05 PM (PST). Las Vegas returns home to host the Idaho Steelheads on March 13th and 14th at 7:30 PM at the Orleans Arena.
