Charlotte Checkers News Release

Charlotte N.C. - The goal scoring troubles for the Checkers continued as they only managed one goal in a 2-1 loss to the Trenton Devils on Sunday afternoon.

The only goal of the first period came from Devils forward Jim Henkel when he flipped a shot off the right arm of Checkers goalie Maxime Daigneault and into the Checkers net at 16:27. This gave Trenton a 1-0 after twenty minutes of action.

The Checkers tied the contest with a short-handed tally during a two-on-one rush started by Mike Bayrack. Michel Leveille took a nice pass from Bayrack and wristed a shot over the blocker of Trenton netminder Gerald Coleman at 8:49. The game remained locked at 1-1 after two periods.

The Devils scored the game winning goal late in the third period after a scrum in front of Daigneault resulted in a shot by Ryan Gunderson over the shoulder of the sprawling netminder at 16:06. This gave the Devils a 2-1 lead and the victory.

The Checkers are playing their 16th season of play as a member of the ECHL. The next home game takes place on March 10 against the Gwinnet Gladiators at 7 P.M. start. In the team's 15-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 11 times including four consecutive playoff appearances to date. The Checkers are in their fourth season of play at Time Warner Cable Arena. For season ticket information, please call 704-342-4-ICE or visit www.gocheckers.com.
