TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: The Ontario Reign return from the All-Star break in first place in the Pacific Division as they open a two-game series tonight in Abbotsford, the first of three straight against the Canucks.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR ONTARIO: The Reign look for their fourth straight win after picking up a pair of 4-3 wins over Bakersfield last Saturday and Friday after defeating Tucson 10 days ago by a final score of 5-1. During the 2026 calendar year Ontario has collected 13-4-0 record having outscored their opponents 61-43 while going 15-for-55 (27.3%) on the power-play and 46-for-51 (90.2%) on the penalty kill. Ontario has posted a 14-9-0 record away from Toyota Arena this season having won four of their last five games as they'll play four of their final five games in February on the road. The Reign have their second highest winning percentage in franchise history, .681%, heading out of the All-Star break with their highest coming in 2015-16 at .718 with a 26-10-3-1 record in 39 games. The 47 games played by Ontario prior to the All-Star break is the most in team history, their second highest being 44 in 2023-24.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR ABBOTSFORD: The Canucks snapped a four-game losing skid last Saturday with a 2-1 victory over San Jose as they're just 3-8-0 in their last 11 but 7-10-0 in 2026. Abbotsford is dead last in the AHL averaging just 2.19 goals for per game while they have the fourth highest goals against average of 3.42 goals allowed per game. They rank 10th in the league on the power-play at 20.7%, fourth on home ice at 26.5%, while they're 30th overall on the penalty kill at 75.9%. The Canucks hold a 10-12-0-2 record on home ice as tonight marks the third of four straight at home before five straight on the road. Ben Berard and Ty Mueller lead the way offensively with 23 points (9G, 14A) each while forwards Anri Ravinskis (Latvia) and Lukas Reichel (Germany) will be absent this weekend as they're representing their countries in the Olympics. Jonathan Lekkerimäki who the Reign have yet to see this season is expected to be in the lineup after being loaned from Vancouver last Thursday. The Canucks first round draft pick in 2022, 15th overall, has tallied 18 points (11G, 7A) with Abbotsford this season while notching three points (2G, 1A) in 13 games with Vancouver. Defenseman Victor Mancini should also be available this week as he also returned from Vancouver on Feb. 5. He has suited up in 10 NHL games with Canucks this season while tallying 10 points (3G, 7A) in 26 games with Abbotsford.
HEAD-TO-HEAD SERIES: Ontario holds a 3-0-0 record vs. Abbotsford this season, including 2-0-0 in Abbotsford, with all three scores being 5-2 finals. Glenn Gawdin paces the way offensively with five points (2G, 3A) while Andre Lee has four points (3G, 1A). Ben Berard has tallied three points (1G, 2A) for the Canucks while Vilmer Alriksson has scored twice. The Reign are 3-for-10 on the power-play while Abbotsford is 2-for-7.
BETWEEN TWO PIPES: For Ontario, Erik Portillo and Pheonix Copley have alternated starts over the last 17 games since Portillo returned from injury on Jan. 4. Copley made 18 saves on 21 shots last Saturday in the win as he has won three of his last four starts. Portillo picked up the win last Friday night making18 saves on 21 shots. He has won seven of his last eight starts since his return from injury which sidelined him from Nov.13-Jan.2, 16 consecutive games, and is victorious in 12 of his last 13 decisions. For Abbotsford, Nikita Tolopilo has started the last two games which included a 39 save performance last Saturday. He was recalled by Vancouver on Jan. 24 and has played nine NHL games this season posting a 3-3-1 record with a 3.04 goals against average and .910 save percentage. Aku Koskenvuo was pulled in his last start allowing four goals on 16 shots at Bakersfield on Jan. 30 after logging his first AHL shutout five days prior making 33 saves in a 4-0 win vs. San Diego.
GOAL SCORING AT A PREMIUM: Ontario sits fourth in the AHL averaging 3.38 goals for per game this season having scored four or more in 23 of 47 games posting a 20-2-1-0 record. Of their 159 goals this season 43 have come in the first period, 50 in the second, and 58 in the third. Andre Lee leads the way with 18 goals including seven on the power-play while Cole Guttman is second with 17 and Martin Chromiak has 16. The Reign have eight different double digit goal getters while nine players have 20 or more points.
PROLIFIC PK: The Reign were 3-for-3 on the penalty kill last Saturday and have allowed a power-play goal against in just one of their last eight games (18-for-19), two of their last 12 (36-for-38), and four of their last 20 (54-for-60). Collectively, on the season Ontario is fourth in the AHL at 84.5% and third on the road at 87.1%.
TIGHLTY CONTESTED: Of Ontario's 47 games this season, 23 of them have been determined by one-goal, with the Reign holding a 17-4-1-1 record. In 2026 there have been nine games decided by just one-goal with Ontario winning eight of them.
LET THE HATS FLY: Rookie forward Koehn Ziemmer recorded his first professional hat-trick last Saturday, which happened to be a natural hat-trick, helping the Reign complete a 4-3 come from behind win. The Mayerthorpe, AB native pulled Ontario within one 2:40 into the second and then scored in his first two shifts of the third period, 3:34 and 6:50, capping of the Reign's first hat-trick of the season. The Kings third round draft pick, 78th overall in the 2023 NHL Draft, became one of just five rookies in team history to register a hat-trick joining the likes of Martin Chromiak, Akil Thomas, Alex Turcotte, and Adrian Kempe. There have been 26 hat-tricks in franchise history from 16 different players as Ziemmer's was the first since Apr. 20, 2024 when Turcotte scored three times in a 7-3 win vs. Colorado.
WRIGHT ON CUE: Rookie forward Jared Wright lifted his point-streak to three games last Saturday tallying an assist as he has seven points (3G, 4A) in his last six games and 11 points (6G, 5A) in his last 15. The Kings sixth round draft pick, 169thoverall in the 2022 NHL Draft, is second among league rookies with a plus-21 rating which is tied for seventh among all skaters. His 12 goals are tied for fifth among first year skaters while his 23 points are tied for 13th.
