WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins lost their first game out of the All-Star break, falling 5-0 to the Syracuse Crunch on Saturday night at Mohegan Arena at Casey Plaza.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (32-13-2-2) had its five-game winning streak come to screeching halt, as the team was shut-out by Syracuse for the second time season. Held to a season-low 16 shots on goal, the Penguins had each of their bids thwarted by Brandon Halverson.

Syracuse drew first blood at 8:10 of the first period, when Cooper Flinton detected a loose puck between the hashmarks and whipped it to the back of the Penguins' net.

The Crunch extended their lead to two with 8.4 seconds remaining in the opening frame. After Matteo Pietroniro was initially thwarted by Sergei Murashov, the Syracuse defenseman regained the puck behind the net, banked a shot off of Murashov and watched it skitter across the goal line.

Dylan Duke tipped in a power-play goal eight-and-a-half minutes into the second period, the only tally of the middle frame.

Mitchell Chaffee notched another man-advantage marker in the first two minutes of the third period, then Flinton snagged his second tally of the night at the six-minute mark to round out the scoring.

Murashov stopped 24 of 29 shots faced, also bringing his personal five-game winning streak to an end.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton is back at it again tomorrow, Sunday, Feb. 15, when the Cleveland Monsters come to town for the first time this season. Puck drop is slated for 3:05 p.m. at Mohegan Arena at Casey Plaza.
