DES MOINES, Iowa - The Iowa Wild and Springfield Thunderbirds combined for 14 goals at Casey's Center in a Saturday night barnburner as the Wild fell by an 8-6 score.

Springfield took a 1-0 lead 1:20 into the game when Otto Stenberg beat Cal Petersen (10 saves) inside the left post on a 2-on-1.

The Wild responded on the power play 2:33 later. After Hunter Haight floated a pass to the goal line, Ben Jones jammed a shot on goal and Tyler Pitlick backhanded the rebound past Georgi Romanov (23 saves).

Zach Dean deflected a point shot from Quinton Burns through Petersen at 6:36.

Jakub Stancl converted on a give-and-go with Hugh McGing to give the Thunderbirds a two-goal lead at 9:46.

Pitlick collected a pass from Haight on a 2-on-1 and pulled the puck to his backhand before beating Romanov at 15:12. Matt Kiersted also assisted Pitlick's second goal of the period.

Thomas Bordeleau responded with an unassisted tally for Springfield 31 seconds later.

Iowa found the back of the net to make the score 4-3 with three seconds remaining in the opening frame. With a delayed penalty to Springfield, Nicolas Aubé-Kubel sent a slap pass into the left circle for Jack Peart to bury into an open net. Oskar Olausson picked up a secondary assist on Peart's third goal of the season.

Iowa outshot Springfield 11-9 in the opening 20 minutes.

Matt Luff set up Chris Wagner for a backdoor tap-in on the power play 1:32 into the second period.

Theo Lindstein added to Springfield's lead at 9:15.

The Wild outshot the Thunderbirds 18-16 through two periods. William Rousseau (eight saves) replaced Petersen in net to start the third period.

Michael Buchinger extended Springfield's lead to 7-3 on the man advantage at 2:37 of the third period.

Dylan Gambrell buried a rebound chance on a 5-on-3 power play with assists from Jones and Haight at 8:04.

David Jiricek found the back of the net through a screen with assists from Jones and Haight at 12:47.

The Wild pulled within a goal with 3:28 left on the clock. After Olausson forced a turnover at the blue line, Bankier raced into the slot and rifled a shot past Romanov.

Luff sealed the game for Springfield with an empty-net goal with 26 seconds to play.

Iowa outshot Springfield 29-26. The Wild and Thunderbirds each finished 2-for-5 with the man advantage.

Iowa travels to Allstate Arena to take on the Chicago Wolves on Thursday, Feb. 19 at 11 a.m.
