Reign Lose to Aces, 6-3

ANCHORAGE, Ala.- The Ontario Reign (13-11-1-1), proud affiliate of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings, were beaten 6-3 by the Alaska Aces (20-5-1-1) before 3,946 at Sullivan Arena Sunday night.

Alaska took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Garry Nunn at 7:18 of the first period and extended the lead to 4-0 in the second on goals by Brian Swanson, Wes Goldie, and Dan Kissel. Chris Carrozzi took over for Jean-Francois Berube between the pipes after Alaska's fourth goal.

Francois Brisebois got the Reign's first goal at 14:30 of the second period on the power play and Bill Bagron batted a puck out of midair to cut the Aces' lead to 4-2 at 6:10 of the third.

The Aces' Steve Ward drew a high-sticking penalty late in regulation and Reign coach Jason Christie pulled Chris Carrozzi for a 6-on-4 attack. However, Swanson scored a short-handed, empty-net goal at 14:30. Kissel added an empty-netter at 18:12 to extend the Alaska lead to 6-2. Brisebois scored his second of the game at 19:03 as the Aces went on to beat the Reign 6-3.

Berube (3-5-1) drew the loss with 14 saves on 18 shots, while Adam Courchaine (5-1-1) stopped 25 of 28 for the win. Carrozzi turned aside all five of the shots he faced in 28:42 of play.
