Seattle Reign FC News Release

SEATTLE (November 2, 2015) - The Orlando Pride selected ten players in the National Women's Soccer League's Expansion Draft on Monday morning.

As expected, with the first pick in the Expansion Draft the Pride selected U.S. Women's National Team defender Meghan Klingenberg from Seattle Reign FC. Per Expansion Draft rules, Orlando was then prevented from selecting additional players from Reign FC.

Reign FC acquired Klingenberg on October 21 from the Houston Dash in a trade that sent the rights to midfielder Amber Brooks and the 5th pick in the first round of the 2016 NWSL College Draft to Houston. As a result of Orlando selecting Klingenberg, Seattle will receive Houston's 1st Round Pick in the 2017 NWSL College Draft.

"We are disappointed that Klingenberg won't have the opportunity to play for Reign FC - she is an outstanding person and player and would have been a great addition to our club," said general manager and head coach Laura Harvey. "Despite losing Kling, we are pleased that we've been able to keep the core of our squad intact."

Klingenberg, 27, was selected by the Houston Dash in the 2014 Expansion Draft from the Boston Breakers. Through two seasons with the Dash, the Gibsonia, Pa. native appeared in 19 matches (all starts), tallying two assists in 1,653 minutes.
