Reed Drives in Three in 7-4 Greenville Victory

Greenville, S.C. - Tyreque Reed continued his torrid pace at the plate with three more RBI, including a solo home run, while the offense exploded for four runs in the sixth inning en route to a 7-4 win over Asheville at Fluor Field Tuesday night.

Reed now has driven in at least one RBI in five-straight games. During that span, he has 10 RBI. He has also had three RBI twice over the streak. The right-hander leads High-A East with eight home runs and 29 RBI. For the night, Reed went 2-for-3 with a home run and triple.

Overall, Greenville's offense compiled seven hits. Christian Koss and Devlin Granberg also registered two hit performances along with Reed. Tyler Dearden drove in two RBI.

Yorvin Pantoja got the win after hurling 2.0 scoreless frames with no hits allowed. He fanned three. Jake Wallace picked up his second save of the year. He also tossed two scoreless and hitless frames with five punchouts. Brayan Bello got the start for Greenville and had his four-game win streak snapped. He went 5.0 innings and allowed four runs, two earned, on seven hits, two homers and three walks with six punchouts.

R.J. Freure was charged with the loss after surrendering four runs.

Asheville jumped on the board quickly two batters into the game on a Joe Perez two-out solo home run.

In the second inning, the Tourists added to their lead. Wilyer Abreu began the frame and reached on an error. The next two batters walked to load the bases. Alex Holderbach then grounded into a double play to plate the runner to take a 2-0 advantage.

Greenville cut the lead in half in the bottom portion of the inning. With Tyreque Reed leading off, he blasted a 1-2 pitch 415 ft. to right field for a solo homer. It was his eighth of the year.

The Drive's next turn at the plate they tied it up. Granberg led off the inning and connected on a solo shot that hit the netting above the center field wall to knot the game at 2-2.

However, Asheville took the lead back, 4-2, in the top of the sixth. Scott Scheiber hit a solo clout for the first run of the frame. Abreu and Luis Santana then both singled to knock Bello out of the game. With runners at first and third, Santana stole second base. The catcher's throw down to second sailed for an error, allowing the runner on third to score an unearned run.

Greenville seized their first lead of the game in the bottom of the sixth. Koss doubled to begin the frame. Esplin then walked. With Reed at the plate, Esplin and Koss each advanced a base on a passed ball. Reed proceeded to drive in his second RBI of the game on a groundout to first. The following batter, Howlett, walked and then stole second base to put runners at second and third. After a strikeout, Dearden grounded a two-run single up the middle to give the Drive a 5-4 lead. The last run of the inning scored on a wild pitch, giving Greenville a 6-4 advantage.

The Drive lead added one more to their tally in the bottom of the seventh. Koss roped a leadoff triple to center field. Two batters later, Reed lined a ball to the right fielder for a sac fly.

Game two against the Tourists is set for Wednesday at 7 pm at Fluor Field. The Drive are set to throw right-hander Chase Shugart while Asheville is scheduled to throw left-hander Juan Pablo.
