RedHawks Win Dogfight in Game One against Chicago

FARGO, ND - The RedHawks clawed their way back into Tuesday night's game against Chicago and held on for a 9-8 win over the Dogs in front of 3,890 fans at Newman Outdoor Field.
The game went right down to the wire, with 17 combined runs on 28 hits between the two teams. Both clubs showed some impressive displays of offense - including big nights for F-M's Chris Jacobs and Chicago's Keon Barnum - but it was the RedHawks' relievers who finished the job by closing out the Dogs in the end.
The first two innings of tonight's game seemed to predict a pitchers' duel between Chicago's Jake Dahlberg and Fargo-Moorhead's Michael Tamburino. That all changed when Tamburino was forced to exit the game early after taking a line drive off his right wrist in the top of the third inning after striking out three and allowing just two hits over 2.1 innings in his 13th start of the year.
Michael Hope took over for the RedHawks after Tamburino's untimely exit, but did not look as sharp as he has in previous outings. Hope gave up an RBI single to Edwin Arroyo and a three-run home run to Keon Barnum - his 20th of the year - later in the inning to give Chicago a 4-0 lead. Hope got the win for the RedHawks despite giving up five runs on six hits over two innings of relief work. The RedHawks took no time to respond with a three-run third inning thanks to a Devan Ahart RBI groundout, a Chris Jacobs RBI double, and a Correlle Prime RBI single.
The Dogs came right back with two more runs in the top of the fourth to re-extend their lead up to three runs off a Tony Rosselli 2 RBI single. Then, in the bottom of the inning, the RedHawks rallied for five runs to take a 8-6 lead. Key moments in the 'Hawks' 5-run inning included an RBI double to the right field corner by Yhoxian Medina, Chris Jacobs' second double of the game, and a costly error by Chicago's right fielder Victor Roache that allowed Chris Jacobs to score, as well as Corelle Prime later in the inning.
The RedHawks bullpen stepped up when they were needed most, with relievers Carter Hope, Brent Jones, Joe Filomeno, and Geoff Broussard combining for five innings pitched, only allowing two runs, and striking-out seven batters. Geoff Broussard picked up his 19th save of the season - second in the American Association only to Winnipeg's Victor Capellan.
Fargo-Moorhead and Chicago will continue their series on Wednesday night from Newman Outdoor Field. LHP Tyler Pike (4-2) is scheduled to start for the RedHawks against the Dogs' LHP Luke Westphal (9-1). First pitch is scheduled for 7:02 p.m.
