
RedHawks rally late, down 'Birds

MEMPHIS, TN - A ninth inning home run lifted Oklahoma City over Memphis 5-3 Monday afternoon at AutoZone Park in the regular season finale.
With two outs and his team trailing 3-2 in the top of the ninth, Casey Benjamin played the hero. The RedHawks left fielder crushed a three-run blast into the Memphis bullpen to give the Hawks their first lead of the day. Benjamin's late inning heroics capped off a 4-for-5 afternoon and avoided a five-game sweep. The Redbirds brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth but Josh Rupe finished off the comeback victory getting Jon Jay to fly out. Mark Hamilton drove in two runs for the âBirds and Jarrett Hoffpauir collected a pair of hits in the loss.
Oklahoma City starter Brian Corey earned the win tossing 8.2 solid innings. The right-hander allowed three runs on eight hits with six strikeouts. Royce Ring took the loss for Memphis giving up three runs in the ninth. Redbirds starter Oneli Perez gave up two runs on eight hits across six innings.
The Redbirds travel to Albuquerque to begin a five-game series in the first round of the Pacific Coast League playoffs on Wednesday night. Jaime Garcia gets the nod for the âBirds and will face Isotopes lefty Eric Stults. First pitch is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. CT. Memphis returns home on Friday for game three with game time scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
