Oklahoma City Comets News Release

In consecutive ball games, the Zephyrs pounded out 14 hits and eight runs and quelled a respectable late-inning RedHawks rally to secure the final game of the series. New Orleans earned an 8-7 win on a beautiful Sunday afternoon at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark.

Oklahoma City led 3-0 through five innings of play. But in the sixth the tables turned, after a run already in, Jason Lane knocked a two-run homer to center field. His second of the year knotted the game at three.

The Z's continued to tack on runs plating 5 more from the seventh inning on.

A four-run deficit to begin the top of the ninth inning was almost wiped away as the RedHawks pushed three across. With the bases loaded and two-outs, Taylor Teagarden lined out to Emilio Benifacio at short stop to end the game.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia went 3-for-5 slugging his third homer of the season and extending his consecutive hit streak to nine games, the longerst for any RedHawk in 2010. Mitch Moreland was a perfect 3-for-3 with a homer and two RBIs. Oklahoma City out-hit New Orleans 17 to 14.

Willie Eyre (0-2) earned his second loss in as many appearances lasting two innings, allowing four runs. Michael Ballard finished with a no-decision pitching six innings of six-hit ball allowing three runs. Jorge Sosa ( 2-1) went six innings for the win, surrendering three runs.

Oklahoma City and Omaha will begin their four-game set Monday evening at Rosenblatt Stadium. Tommy Hunter and Philip Humber are slated to pitch for the RedHawks and Royals respectively with a first pitch scheduled for 6:35 pm.
