Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release

FARGO, N.D. - Jesse Hoorelbeke hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to put the RedHawks ahead for the first time in the game and giving Fargo-Moorhead a 4-2 lead as they defeated the Calgary Vipers in front of 2977 at Newman Outdoor Field on Saturday

Calgary placed the first run on the board in the top of the first inning when the leadoff hitter, Nelson Castro, reached on a single to left field and advanced around the bags on a stolen base, a groundout and a sacrifice fly by Josh Carter.

The RedHawks pulled even in the bottom of the second inning when Eric Kofler, who reached on balls, scored on an RBI ground by Craig Ringe but the Vipers reclaimed the lead in the fourth inning. Fargo-Moorhead again pulled the even with Calgary when Hoorelbeke scored on a Kory Wayment triple.

The game was scoreless through three innings before Hoorelbeke hit his fourth home run of the season.

Mark Michael got the start for Fargo-Moorhead but did not factor in the decision after pitching 6.0 innings in which he allowed just two runs and struck out eight batters. The win was credited to Mike Peschel who threw 1.1 innings for the RedHawks and struck out one. Josh Gray picked up his first save of the season after striking out two batters in the ninth inning.

Fargo-Moorhead (16-6) now sits at the top of the Northern League alone after Schaumburg dropped a 4-1 game to Joliet. The RedHawks will finish their series with Calgary (9-12) on Sunday with a 2:05 p.m. game which plots Brandon Goltz (2-0, 2.65) against Clint Hosford (2-2, 5.01).
