The JackHammers finally took one from the Flyers, until tonight's game the Flyers were 5-0 against the JackHammers. The JackHammers took the 4-1 decision from the Flyers tonight at Alexian Field. With the loss the Flyers move to 15-7 on 2006, while the JackHammers improve to 6-15.
Prior to tonight's game, the Flyers hosted the Chicago Bears Celebrity Homerun Derby by Heidenhain Corporation. The Bears team raised $1750 for the Bears Care charity, while the Chicago Sports Celebrity team raised $1700 for Alexian Center for Mental Health. On hand for the Homerun Derby were Chicago Bears Hunter Hillenmeyer, Robbie Gould, and Patrick Mannely, for the Celebrity team was Dan Pasqua, Jack O'Callahan, Bob Nardella, and Troy Murray.
For the third straight night the JackHammers were the first to get on the scoreboard in the first inning. Jayson Drobiak doubled down the right field line with one out, bringing in John Lackaff and Chad Ehrnsberger, to take the early 2-0 lead.
The JackHammers took the 3-0 lead in the fifth when Bubba Smith doubled to bring in Ehrnsberger, who had walked the previous at bat.
Ed Rompery picked up the fourth run of the game for the JackHammers in the sixth, when third baseman John Lackaff doubled to bring him in, bumping their lead to 4-0.
The Flyers got on the board in the bottom of the sixth, when Josue Lopez scored on a ground out by catcher Ryan Walker, registering the Flyers only RBI. The Flyers were unable to get any other runs across the plate in the sixth, ending the inning down, 4-1.
The game remained that way through the remainder of the innings, with the JackHammers coming out on top. The difference in the game was the Flyers inability to get anyone across the plate; the Flyers stranded 12 men on base tonight.
Ben Van Iderstine was the only Flyer with multiple hits tonight, going 2-4 at the plate.
Flyers starter R.J. Swindle received his second loss on the season, throwing six complete innings allowing four runs on ten hits and striking out three JackHammers batters. JackHammers starter Roger Luque picked up his third win of the season, throwing six and one thirds innings, allowing only one unearned run on eight hits. Victor Kleine came into the game in the seventh for the JackHammers, picking up the save.
