The indyballer out-dueled the fireballer, but in the end the RedHawks fell to Iowa.

The Cubs scored two runs with two out in the eighth inning to beat the RedHawks 2-1 Friday in front of 13,669 at Principal Park in Des Moines.

They came to see Kerry Wood, on Chicago's disabled list, make a rehab start for the Cubs. He went 5.2 innings and gave up one run on four hits with one walk and nine strikeouts.

However, he was out-done by RedHawks starter Derek Lee. Lee was making his first Oklahoma start after being signed from the independent Atlantic League's Somerset Patriots June 20.

Lee went seven innings and gave up no runs on seven hits with two walks and four strikeouts. He retired the last nine batters he faced.

The RedHawks scored first when left fielder Jason Botts hit a solo home run off Wood in the fourth inning. However, it would be the only run for the RedHawks.

Iowa scored two runs with two out in the eighth inning off relief pitcher Kelvin Jimenez to take the lead. Jimenez struck out the first two batters in the inning and then gave up a double to Scott McClain. Ben Grieve was then intentionally walked.

Iowa catcher Geovany Soto doubled to score McClain with the tying run. That brought up former RedHawk Cody Ransom with the go-ahead run on third. Ransom hit the ball up the middle where Oklahoma shortstop Manny Alexander was able to keep the ball in the infield. However, Ransom reached first safely and Grieve scored what would be the winning run.

The RedHawks return home to take on the Nashville Sounds at 7:05 Saturday at SBC Bricktown Ballpark. Saturday is the Oklahoma Centennial Commission Mickey Mantle statue giveaway. The first 2,500 fans will receive replicas of the statue in front of the main entrance to SBC Bricktown Ballpark.
