RedHawks face Kerry Wood tonight

The Oklahoma RedHawks will face rehabbing Chicago Cubs pitcher Kerry Wood at 7:05 tonight in Des Moines, Iowa .

Wood is on Chicago's disabled list with a right shoulder strain. He is 0-0 with a 3.86 ERA in two previous rehab starts. He has pitched a total of seven innings and has given up three runs on seven hits with five walks and nine strikeouts for Iowa . Wood told MLB.com after his last game with Iowa he expected to throw around 85 pitches against the RedHawks.

He was 1-1 with a 6.15 ERA, 14 walks and 33 strikeouts in five starts for Chicago before his injury.

The RedHawks will counter with left hander Derek Lee. Lee was signed out of the independent Atlantic League June 20. He was 4.2 with a 2.45 ERA in 10 starts for the Somerset Patriots. He is making his first Triple-A start since 2003.

Wood is most famous for striking out 20 batters in a game May 6, 1998 , against Houston, tying the Major League record for strikeouts in a game. He was named National League Rookie of the year the same season.

This will be the second time in two years the RedHawks have faced a rehabbing Chicago Cub pitcher in Iowa. Mark Prior started against the RedHawks May 30, 2004 and earned the win, going 5.1 innings and giving up two runs on three hits, walking one and striking out 10. Iowa won the game 14-2. Pete Zoccolillo and Marshall McDougall hit solo home runs off Prior for the RedHawks.
