Round Rock Express News Release

(MEMPHIS, TN) - Neither Express starter Taylor Buchholz nor Memphis starter Bill Pulsipher brought his "A" game to the Auto Zone Park mound on Friday evening. Buchholz went five innings in his shakiest start of the season. He surrendered an uncharacteristic five earned runs on seven hits, while striking out four and walking three. His counterpart had a rougher outing, giving up six runs, but his teammates bailed out Pulsipher with two big innings.

Memphis took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning after 3B Bo Hart singled and RF John Rodriguez doubled, Hart scored on an RBI sacrifice fly from 1B Chris Duncan.

The Express matched the solo run Memphis put up in the bottom of the first inning with a single run in the top of the second inning. After LF Carlos Rivera singled with one out, and RF Todd Self drew a walk, CF Barry Wesson drilled an RBI double down the left field line to tie the game.

But in the third inning, Memphis notched the first of two big innings off Express pitching. With Buchholz on the mound, the Redbirds put up four runs, with the big blow, a two-run homer from 1B Chris Duncan and the Express trailed 5-1.

But the E-Train battled back, rattling Pulsipher for five runs on three hits, including a bases loaded, three-run double from SS Danny Klassen to make it a 6-5 Round Rock lead.

But after starter Buchholz left with a lead, reliever Brooks Kieschnick gave up hits to the only four batters he faced in the sixth inning. All four scored and the Express trailed 9-6.

Memphis relievers Josh Pearce, with two shutout innings and closer Vladmir Nunez made the lead stick and Round Rock lost the game and the series to the Redbirds.

Round Rock returns home for a 7:05 PM start on Saturday, June 25, against division rival Albuquerque. Right-hander Fernando Nieve meets veteran Isotopes righty Frank Castillo.
