
Greg Jones returns to Salt Lake

SALT LAKE CITY-The Stingers announce Friday that RHP Scott Schneider has been placed on the 3-day inactive list and RHP Greg Jones was activated on Salt Lake's roster from double-A Arkansas. Schneider has returned home this weekend to attend to a family matter. Jones missed the first two months of the season rehabbing at extended spring training after undergoing surgery on his right shoulder.
Jones, 28, has spent the majority of the last three seasons with the Stingers. In three games with the Travelers this year, Jones has posted a 0-1 record and 2.70 ERA (3.1 IP - 1 ER) with one walk and two strikeouts. Jones went 1-4 with a 5.74 ERA (53.1 IP - 34 ER) with 19 walks and 43 strikeouts in 36 games for the Stingers in 2004. He earned a career-high seven victories in 39 games for the Stingers in 2002.
Jones had his contract purchased by the Angels from Salt Lake on July 30, 2003 and he made his Major League debut that night in the ninth inning against the New York Yankees (1 IP, 1 BB, 1 SO). He appeared in 18 games with the Angels in 2003, posting no record and a 4.88 ERA (27.2 IP - 15 ER). He opened his Major League career with ten scoreless innings in seven games and retired 11of the first 18 batters he faced. He was teammates with RHP Mike Brunet in college and was signed by Orem Owlz manager Tom Kotchman. Originally drafted in the 42nd round of the 1996 free agent draft, Jones currently resides in Clearwater, Florida and is a volunteer HS football coach in the off-season.
