Oklahoma City Comets News Release

Las Vegas, Nev. - The Las Vegas 51s overcame a three-run deficit and scored the game's final four runs in 4-3 defeat of the Oklahoma City RedHawks before 2,002 Sunday night at Cashman Field.

Both teams were held scoreless through three innings, although the 51s stranded runners in scoring position twice.

The RedHawks (69-53) jumped in front with three runs in the fourth. Jimmy Paredes led off the inning with a double, and two batters later, Brandon Laird brought him home with an RBI groundout.

With none on and two outs, the RedHawks were able to rally for two more runs. Jon Singleton and Jose Martinez each collected RBI doubles to make it 3-0.

The 51s (65-55) would erase the deficit over the next two innings. Las Vegas scored twice in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI groundout by Brian Bixler and a two-out RBI single by Kirk Nieuwenhuis.

Las Vegas plated two more in the bottom of the fifth. Eric Campbell lifted a sac fly to center field to tie the game, and Matt den Dekker put the 51s in the lead with an RBI single.

The RedHawks only had three runners reach base aside from the fourth inning, and Marwin Gonzalez's two-out single in the ninth was the team's only hit over the final five frames. With Gonzalez representing the tying run, 51s reliever Rob Carson struck out Singleton to end the game and earn his ninth save.

Over the four-game series, the RedHawks only scored in six of 36 innings and the 51s held them to a .175 batting average.

For most of the night, Las Vegas starting pitcher Chris Schwinden was hard to crack. Schwinden (6-9) went six innings and did not allow a run or a hit outside of the three-run, four-hit fourth. He struck out four and walked one.

Making his team and Triple-A debut, David Martinez labored through his first outing. Martinez, who was 14-2 with a 2.02 ERA with Double-A Corpus Christi, allowed four runs and seven hits over 4.1 innings. He struck out three and walked a season-high five. In 129.1 innings with the Hooks, Martinez (0-1) walked just 20 batters.

After dropping three of four in Las Vegas, the RedHawks continue their road trip Monday night in Tucson at 9:05 p.m. central time. Live coverage begins at 8:35 p.m. on AM 1340 "The Game," 1340thegame.com, or through the free IHeartRadio mobile app.
