Tacoma Rainiers News Release

ROUND ROCK, Tex. - The Tacoma Rainiers suffered a 5-1 series-opening loss to the Round Rock Express at Dell Diamond on Monday.

Outfielder Carlos Peguero provided the Rainiers an early 1-0 lead with a solo homer in the second inning that ultimately proved to be Tacoma's only run of the night. The blast was Peguero's team-leading 17th home run of the season.

Round Rock evened the score in the bottom of the second inning thanks to Guilder Rodriguez' single that plated Jared Hoying with one out. The Express pulled ahead for good after Jim Adduci tripled home Eli Whiteside in the fourth.

Tacoma's lineup was limited to three hits, with Rich Poythress and Carlos Triunfel delivering the Rainiers only other knocks of the game. Triunfel has now hit safely in each of his last eight games played.

Starter James Paxton was dealt the tough-luck loss despite holding the Express to two runs on eight hits over six innings. The left-hander struck out three and walked five in his team-leading 23rd start.

The Rainiers (64-59) take the field for the second game of a four-game series at Round Rock (64-60) tomorrow, August 12. Right-hander Andrew Carraway (6-5, 4.80) is slated to take the mound for Tacoma against Express right-hander Evan Meek (5-7, 3.80). First pitch is set for 5:05 p.m.
