RH Guillermo Moscoso (5-2, 3.82) vs. RH Josh Banks (8-6, 2.91)
TONIGHT: After sweeping a marathon doubleheader last night that ended after 1 am, the RedHawks open the final series before the All-Star break with the first of 4 at Round Rock (Houston Astros). OKC took 3 of 4 from the Express in the other series between these clubs April 12-15 at The Brick. The RedHawks are 3 games ahead of Albuquerque in the American South Division, 4.5 up on New Orleans and 10.5 games up on Round Rock. Guillermo Moscoso gets the start against Round Rock, his first this year against the Express. Josh Banks gets the ball for the Express.
REDHAWKS SWEEP LONG TWIN BILL: A half-hour rain delay before the first pitch; a 2-hour, 39-minute first game (7 innings); followed by a 4-hour, 15-minute nightcap spanning 13 innings resulted in the RedHawks winning both ends of a doubleheader last night over Nashville 11-6 and 5-4. The RedHawks have swept their past 2 doubleheaders over the Sounds and New Orleans after being swept in their first by Fresno. OKC allowed 25 hits in the 20 innings last night and 44 hits in 29 innings during the rain-shortened, 3-game series, but took the series 2-1.
GENTRIFIED: Center fielder Craig Gentry was activated from the DL yesterday (sprained left MCL in knee) and went 5-for-7 in Game 2 with a 13th-inning, walk-off single, a third-inning homer, an outfield assist at home (throwing out Brendan Katin trying to score) and a home-run saving catch atop the wall on a drive by Mat Gamel. The 5-hit game was the first by a RedHawk since John Mayberry, Jr., on May 2, 2008 at Portland. Gentry's 5-hit effort was the 13th in the PCL this year and one of two last night. Kaz Matsui of Colorado Springs went 5-for-5 at Fresno on Wednesday.
DAVIS LEADS BATTING RACE: Chris Davis has the best batting average in the PCL among those with enough plate appearances to qualify at .354. Davis is tied for sixth in slugging percentage (.556) and is ninth in on-base percentage (.404). Davis will be the PCL's starting third baseman at the Triple-A All-Star Game July 14 at Lehigh Valley. Lefty starter Michael Kirkman is OKC's other All-Star. Closer Pedro Strop was selected, but has been recalled by Texas.
ERA TOPS IN LEAGUE: The RedHawks lead the PCL in team ERA at 3.65. Tacoma is second at 3.85. OKC has allowed the fewest home runs in the league (47), 15 fewer than Tacoma. The RedHawks have allowed the fewest runs (355) and the fewest earned runs (302) while owning the best run differential in the league at +84.
PROVIDING MORE: Right fielder Mitch Moreland leads the PCL with 11 outfield assists. He also has a 20-game on-base streak. During the streak, which began with the second game of a doubleheader June 16, Moreland is batting .324 (23-for-71) with 3 homers and 13 RBIs, raising his average from .261 to .277. Moreland has a separate, 20-game road on-base streak dating to May 27 at Tacoma. The road streak is the second best active on-base streak in the league behind Brock Bond of Fresno, who has reached in 24 straight road contests.
TRACY TO DL, CHAVEZ ADDED: Infielder/outfielder Chad Tracy has been placed on the DL with a strained oblique. Tracy left yesterday's opener after hitting a 3-run homer in the first inning. He heads to the DL leading the club with 17 home runs. Endy Chavez has been added to OKC's roster. The veteran outfielder opened the year on the DL after undergoing right knee surgery in 2009. Chavez recently prepped for his return with games in the Arizona League and at Class AA Frisco.
MISCELLANY: Warner Madrigal has tossed 8.1 consecutive scoreless innings over his last 5 games, including 2.2 in a victory in last night's first game...OKC's bullpen tossed 10.2 innings in the 2 games last night with all 6 members seeing action, 5 in the 13-inning nightcap...the second game was OKC's second-longest this year in time (4:15) and innings (13) behind a 14-inning, 4:20 marathon vs. Sacramento May 13, an 8-5 OKC loss...the RedHawks are 3-5 in extra innings.
