LH Derek Holland (2-0, 0.46) vs. RH Kameron Loe (1-1, 5.51)
TONIGHT: The PCL's ERA leader, Derek Holland, takes the mound for the RedHawks in the final game of this series and trip at Greer Stadium in Nashville against the Sounds. Holland, riding a 14.2-inning scoreless streak, totes a 0.46 ERA into tonight's game. The only run Holland has allowed came opening night on a solo homer by Albuquerque's Michael Restovich in the fifth inning. Nashville will start righthander Kameron Loe, a Rangers 2002 draft pick who spent parts of 4 seasons with the RedHawks. OKC leads the American South by 2 games with the league's best record at 10-5. Nashville leads the American North by 1 game.
REDHAWKS HIT 3 HOMERS ON THURSDAY: OKC matched its season high for home runs in a game with 3 last night in a 7-4 win over the Sounds. Chad Tracy, Matt Brown and Jarrod Saltalamacchia had solo shots in helping erase 3-0 and 4-3 deficits. The RedHawks have won 2 out of 3 in this series and have guaranteed a winning trip by taking 5 of the first 7 games. A win tonight would give OKC three straight series wins by 3-1 margins.
SMOAK, DAVIS SWITCH SPOTS: Justin Smoak left last night's game in the eighth inning in anticipation of having his contract purchased today by the Texas Rangers. The Rangers have optioned first baseman Chris Davis to the RedHawks. Smoak leaves the PCL leading the circuit in walks with 16 and fourth in on-percentage at .470. Smoak had a 12-game on-base streak halted last night. The streak was the league's sixth longest so far this season.
TRACY AMONG LEADERS: Chad Tracy is among the league leaders in several categories. He's tied for second in homers (5), tied for third in RBIs (14), fourth in slugging (.719), tied for fifth in hits (20) and tied for first in total bases (41).
TEAM RANKINGS: OKC's 3.13 team ERA is third in the league behind Colorado Springs (3.10) and Las Vegas (3.10). The RedHawks share the league lead with 2 shutouts. Offensively, the RedHawks are second in the PCL in team batting average (.284) on-base percentage (.365) and slugging (.463). OKC is second in homers with 17 and tied for second in triples with 8.
LATE RUNS: OKC has scored 79 runs this season and 37 have been in innings 7-9 (15 runs in the seventh, 13 in the eighth and 9 in the ninth). OKC is second in the league in runs behind Albuquerque's 95.
SALTALAMACCHIA REHAB UPDATE: Texas Rangers catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia caught 7 innings and had 4 at bats last night in his third game of a rehab assignment. He hit a game-tying homer in the sixth to make the score 4-4. Saltalamacchia is 2-for-9 with a homer, 1 RBI, 2 walks and 3 strikeouts during this assignment. He went on the Rangers' 15-day DL April 8 with a left upper back strain after starting the season opener, driving in the winning run with a single in the bottom of the ninth and pinch hitting during the next game. More information on him can be found on page 5 of today's notes.
BULLPEN STREAKERS: Clay Rapada has put together a 7.2-inning scoreless streak over his last 5 games...Pedro Strop has not allowed an earned run in his last 5 games, spanning 4.2 innings. Strop did take a blown save and a loss on Monday in Memphis by allowing an inherited runner to score, plus his own unearned run. Omar Beltre has 2 saves in his last 3 games, tossing 4 scoreless innings. Willie Eyre has not allowed a hit or a run in his last 3 games covering 4 innings. Geoff Geary has pitched 4.1 scoreless innings over his last 2 outings.
UP NEXT: The RedHawks return home Saturday to face Memphis at 7:05 pm in the opener of an 8-game homestand. Hall-of-Famer Lou Brock will meet fans and signing autographs.
